There are over 40 regional accents/dialects in Britain alone, and you can drive across the entire country in under a day. In the solar system it can take over a year to get from one side to the other.

It's not like earth or Mars where everyone is close together or even different parts of the same rock in space. You're gonna end up with quite the range of accents, and then depending on how well off you were able to get, you'd have a different class-based lilt or dialect too. Naomi's backstory is revealed more later, but without spoilers for anything, she was able to attend university for engineering, which is rather high class for Belters. Whether she was born to that station or bootstrapped herself there, she was able to attend university formally and mix it up with other higher class students for four years, so it makes sense in a way that no matter how thick her native dialect would have been, she would have been exposed long enough to learn how to pass for Belter "high society".

2025-06-17 20:35:25 +0000 UTCOne of the best episodes of the entire show. Also, one of the best space combat scenes ever put on film or TV. The guys might have missed it though, laughing and handwaving over the top of it. And yes, the realistic use of physics with the tools flying about while the ship maneuvers...perfectly illustrates what's going on. Its just fucking spectacular that something like this made it past all the morons and actually got made. Thank god for The Expanse.
