Character driven episodes can be done well. First thing I think of is Seinfeld. Not much plot when they were walking around a parking garage for 30 minutes. Or waiting in line at a restaurant. But those are arguably their most memorable and popular episodes. (Not a defense of this episode, just a general thought)

It's a bad episode. It's one thing to say you are interested in characterization, but it is another thing entirely to say "plot doesn't matter, do good character stuff and then we will like the plot." It's just almost scientifically provable in a court of law that story does matter. Again, I invite anyone to watch the first 5 episodes of TOS and see just how much plot matters: If it ain't on the page, it ain't on the stage. It's through how a character acts in a story that makes us like them, not "these are fun characters! This story about watching paint dry is actually great!" This episode has almost no redeeming qualities, and wacky Q shenanigans does nothing to help make a good story imo. He is shtick, nothing more and nothing less, a detriment to a good story if ever there was one.

I think the gap between the Patrons and you all is we are crippled with knowledge of the future. We have know what a typical DS9 outing is and this ain't it. Having said that, I think I enjoy this one more after seeing both of you enjoy it.

I don’t think Sisko should have been nearly as restrained in his dealing with Q considering Q is directly responsible for the death of his wife at the hands of the Borg and he would know that. His anger at Picard in the pilot would have probably been better handled as a metaphor for dealing with PTSD triggers where this could have been a metaphor for dealing with a god that would allow a loved one to die and here’s a chance to give him your 2 cents about it. I like both episodes well enough, but those are some missed opportunities to me upon reflection.

Ding Ding Ding! Ladies and Gentlemen! The moment you all (Or at least I) have been waiting for! It's Round 3 of Alex and Josh vs Vash! OK, was waiting for this episode ever since Qpid. Not because there's much that stands out (besides Sisko punching Q) or that I shared the fellas feelings on Vash. But I really wanted to see what they thought when a character they couldn't stand returned in another Q episode that not many people are fond of. I guess fans didn't think the DS9 crew had the same chemistry with Q as the Enterprise did. Against the other Vash episodes I'd say that Qpid was fun with the Robin Hood stuff and Picard being put on the backfoot with his relationship with Vash, and Captain's Holiday at least was Picard having his own treasure hunt/noir adventure where he met some shady characters. With Q-Less, I'd give it a C, but even with John De Lancie doing a good job mixing being funny and threatening the story is another case of "stuff is going wrong with our ship/station and if we don't find it soon we're going to blow up". Glad to see that your misgivings about Vash were based more on you feeling that Picard deserved better and you could enjoy her in a different setting. Thanks for the content! Engage!

Oh man.. just had a thought. There is an Easter egg in an episode of a future series. It connects directly to our world, but unless someone has posted a version online some place, by the time you get there the phone number you call to get to it may no longer function...

It says so much about Ds9 for you to have a turn around about Vash. This one is enjoyable for me because of Q...I'm with Alex, the plot, meh.
