That would involve Geordi having a spine

2025-05-29 05:48:26 +0000 UTCSenior Chief Petty Officer Miles Edward O'Brien. Pretty sure he got promoted from Chief when he took the job on DS9. You can tell He's a petty officer because he shows up. Warrant officers tend to vanish. One minute they're there, then you look again...gone. Already at home with their feet up on the coffee table. :) But in all seriousness, I don't think warrant officers have been mentioned even once in all of Star Trek. Don't think Starfleet uses them.

2025-05-29 04:16:07 +0000 UTCNow you have me thinking, could you imagine if they gave this to TNG and it was Barclay episode? That has some bizarre potential :D and could be rather amazing if he made the same choices O'Brien did, stood his ground and defied Picard. I can imagine him, paranoid the whole time assisting Tosk and standing up for his decisions in the end.

2025-05-28 23:22:48 +0000 UTCMaybe my favorite alien design in all of Trek or certainly a top X one. As an episode, I give it a solid B.

2025-05-28 21:39:19 +0000 UTCI think that's a super subjective part of the evaluation process. Yeah, do you think of it in the context of s1 DS9? Do you think of it in the context of all the Trek that's preceded it? Do you narrow it to just the scope of DS9? I think it really is up to the person and, even then, probably not a hard and fast rule.

2025-05-28 20:51:09 +0000 UTCI rated it C, because B is "Banger" and I don't think this episode quite rises to that level. I like any episode that focuses on Chief Warrant Officer Miles O'Brien, who works for a living, soldier! In all seriousness, it's a character study of the Chief, who is starting to adjust to having a name, rank, and regular appearances in the show.

2025-05-28 19:23:00 +0000 UTCThis was a C at best. It had TNG issues for me in that nobody had any skin in the game among the cast, not much happens, and the show is content to just be drama and danger free with nothing going on. In the first ten minutes O'Brien is telling the cast "he's hiding something but I like him". 20 minutes later thanks to having no plot almost, he has the same conversation with the same exact people. 40 minutes in, the show finally decides to introduce some sort of in-story tension or stakes, but by then it is too little too late. This for me has been the most TNG episode of DS9.

2025-05-28 19:16:52 +0000 UTCRight? I have five on my list from S1 that had the potential to wow them and Captive Pursuit was not on my list. I'm so curious now how they will react to the five I chose. It's always fun to see how people view things differently.

2025-05-28 18:21:21 +0000 UTCThis was a good episode. Story was good and the episode well paced. I had to give it a B, though. Sry. I know what is coming, so in that (thoroughly spoiled) perspective I can't justify going higher on this episode. However, in the context of this season, I give it a solid A. I love watching with you. Enjoy the ride, gentlemen. π

2025-05-28 18:18:37 +0000 UTCOkay, help me out DS9 fans! :) New patreon here. So, when you vote on these (A, B, C, etc.) how are you thinking of it? Are we voting on the episode as compared to everything in S1 or DS9 in general/the entire series?

2025-05-28 18:18:25 +0000 UTCFor me it's an S... clearly the lowest S compared to other S tier DS9 episodes, but still an S.

2025-05-28 17:57:42 +0000 UTCA very average episode. Lower than A or B + higher than E or D = C. The acting is excellent, I just think the story about an alien being hunted is not very original. Not in my top five of the season.
TinMan_7B9
2025-05-28 17:15:33 +0000 UTC'B'. It's a fun episode for season 1. It still feels like the show is a spin-off of TNG. Geordi (blasted phone auto-correct!) could easily have be-friended Tosk, with Picard only having to be re-written slightly from Sisko.

2025-05-28 17:02:51 +0000 UTCS tier, because if it was TNG it would have been given to Dr. Crusher in a contrived way to give her something to do that that doesn't jive at all with who the character is.
