I couldn’t agree more about DS9 Season 1. As for that last part…we all know why! πŸ˜‰

I have tried to just say gibberish on the spot and eventually I would end up speaking slower to stop myself from forming cohesive words. So I have often thought about this every time I see this episode and have come to the conclusion that it was scripted. It's a good premise but not a great execution. For a first season and only 5 episodes in, it's worth a B!

Kate Courtney

I've always wondered if the "gibberish" was scripted or if the director let the cast ad lib a little for this episode.

If this episode were done in TNG S1, it probably would have been much worse than it is here. This is watchable and fine, if forgettable in the longer run. The Naked Now (TNG S1E3) was of course much worse.

B Tier as a DS9 episode, which would make it S tier if it was a TNG or Voyager episode

Fred 'Casden' Ortiz

This episode is fun classic sci-fi with a good setup for how Cardassians operate and how little they value non-cardassian life. Also the beginning of Miles O'Brien usurping Picard for most unlucky character

Solid B.

Ken R

Solid C. Kinda silly but deceptively harrowing.

C tier leaning to D. Everyone always says Season 1 of TNG was the worst of "80's-00's" Star Trek, but I have to say DS9 Season 1 was extremely rough to watch. Paramount was prepared to cancel DS9 after its second season, but the show's ratings improved.

Valcoren

A. It's a good "Something weird happens to the entire crew and now they have to figure it out"-episode. I LOVE these kind of episodes. (That's why I also really like "The Game". Top-5 TNG-guilty pleasure).
