PATRON TAKES - TNG S6E12

TAKES WILL BE READ 4/23

Comments

It could be too that a lot of interest in the episode is in the resolution. But once you learn the resolution it takes away some from the episode

Steve777

I am betting the reveal was a "Shut the front door!" moment for both of you.

Paul D

This is one of those episodes I like but can't re-watch it too often or I will not enjoy it... Which is odd because I like re-watching so many other episodes. I think I just never really liked Moriarty that much 🤷‍♂️

Murtaugh

Not the #1 episode with the amazing Barclay, but certainly an enjoyable one. Also, if you’ve never said “Computer, end program” IRL, you’re lying. 😅

KingPin124

Yeah, I agree. "B" grade.

Jovet

Yeah, some aspects of the plot hee-hawing and handwaving real and unreal things are a bit eye-rolling.

Jovet

Should be pronounced like they do in Canadia!

Jovet

Definitely!

Jovet

This is a weird episode. The guys will love it because it's a holodeck episode. I think it's kinda slow and plodding, but it's entertaining from a Holoception point of view.

Jovet

Be honest: how many times since starting TNG have you just wanted to try "end program" out loud? And was it after Hollow Pursuits?

Ross Townsend

This is a decent followup to the original. I think it would have run a serious risk of being pretty dull and uninspired if not for the inclusion of Barclay, who really makes the episode for me. Without him, it's sort of just a rehash of another story but which really just sort of rehashes the same mystery in what I think is a less interesting way. Barclay changes that and really helps make this something like a B or low A for me.

Shane Coombs

Moriarty got Incepted.

Aaron Wells

Yeah, yeah, it’s great, but, can we talk about Picard’s jacket ? Why would you ever take that jacket off? And why would you do it between scenes ? WHY?!

Sixto

Profs gotta to stick together.

Prof Moff

Prof Moriaty is the good guy, Picard and the crew are the villians, Prof Moff is the satisfied viewer. Nuff said

Prof Moff

After this wonderful and amicable send off for the doctor... Wouldn't it be awkward if they found a real solution some day and had to tell him they lied to him?

Mordock_Vapelord

Great episode! In all honesty, with what the crew has been through, it's no wonder they forgot about Moriarty. Solid episode with a novel solution. A stuff here IMO.

Paul O'Neal

Nice to see a call back to an earlier episode, and bring back an old story thread. This is an enjoyable multi level deception episode, though I agree bringing a holographic Pulaski back would have been great, as you could have used that to pull Beverly into the episode.

Thomas Cole

The idea that we might all be in a "simulation" wasn't nearly as ubiquitous in popular culture back when this episode came out as it is today. So when Picard suggested "perhaps we are all characters in a simulation sitting on someone's desk" (or words to that effect) it was pretty mind blowing for me as a kid.

Greg Quinn

Double the Barclay, double the FUN. I STILL can't tell when the switch-over happened.

Nolan

Wasn't he able to see the holodeck wall in Encounter at Farpoint?

tyranusfan

I liked Moriarty as a character. (Maybe a little more in the season 2 episode than in this.) This one is strange for being a Barclay episode that doesn’t really focus on Barclay.

tyranusfan

Data of all people should realize they were always on the holodeck, let alone the Captain. The logical conclusion (the conclusion Holmes would come to) is that Moriarty is fucking with them, not that a hologram can walk off the holodeck. I love this episode though, one of the best of the series. Certainly the best Barclay episode.

Loot Narsbaar

A very nice surprise to see Barclay for the second time this season!

Ron Hubbard Jr

The sequel you didn't know you needed, but you are glad you have!

Who North America

Barclay! He's in this but it is not about him. But it's okay! being here is good 'nuff! Guilty pleasure episode of mine. Fun little twist. And... are we still in the holodeck!?

Nathan Walker

A return you probably wouldn't expect. Also a surprisingly excellent sequel episode. Love the scene where Data figures out what is going on.

Spencer Loften

Does anyone else randomly say "computer end program" out loud just in case? Just me?

David Clamage

"My God, we're adrift in the heavens!" and the final "Computer: End program." are two of my favourite lines of the series. S.

John M.

The Moriarty actor also did a great movie about a submarine, The Hunt for something something

Alan Thompson

Not Sh1t, Sherlock! One of my favorite episodes of TNG. The mindbending twist reminds me of "Remember Me" and "Future Imperfect". You guys liked those episodes, so I think you will like this one as well. S+++

TinMan_7B9

I love the name they give Moriarty's love of his life, Regina , sounds like a different word when he says it out loud to Picard.

DataL0re

Reg is back and he brought Moriarty with him. Yay.

Keith S

Alex, this is Josh. You're still in the holodeck. We can't end the program and this is the only way we can think to get through to you. "Target Audience" isn't real. We love you man, please wake up.

#MaxwellDidNothingWrong

This is one of those episodes that makes me think that the writers never really dealt with what the real implications of technology like the transporters, holodeck, and replicators would be and how they would radically transform society and civilization.

Aramis Calcutt

One of my fave episodes in s6 it’s a lot of fun and a great use of Moriarty.

Darren Seal

As characters in a simulation yourselves, when I'm not watching your videos, do you also experience brief terrifying periods of consciousness, disembodied, without substance? lol just kidding. COMPUTER: END PROGRAM

Ally Roth

Ofcourse it's Reg, the Holo Geek, who finds Moriarty! xD

James Knight

40 episodes of TNG left This one had a bit of an Inception vibe with the holodeck within a holodeck. Given they don't have the means to give Moriarty what he wants, I think giving him and Regina a procedurally generated universe to live in is as good a solution as any.

Timothy Nikiforovs

Biggest surprise of the episode, Troi apparently agreed with Jellico and kept the uniform.

Phillip Grischa

Who is Pulaski? 😉

The Ninth Doctor

I talked about episodes youd like to see a sequel to in Season 6 of TNG and this is why! Unexpected comeback but very welcome! I think Moriarty's actor does a great job both times at being the antagonist of the story while also being very charming and likeable and finding that balance

Fedora The Explorar

I remember you loved the original episode where Morarty got created and I think you wish this storyline was revisited.. well here you go, and Barkley involved on top of it :) You probably really enjoyed this one. Not sure if you enjoyed it more than "part 1" but hey.. they switched Pulaski for Barkley.. that should give it bonus points right there in Alex' eyes :D A Tier

Andreas Schmitt

B for Banger Barclay! Great way to tie in his experiences with the holodeck and Moriarty, way before 'The Matrix' had us questioning reality around us. You may find yourself quietly saying "Computer, End Program" now and again, after this... 😉

The Ninth Doctor

In a way, the title sorta recalls the beginning and end of “Elementary, Dear Data,” where Geordi was building a model ship (though admittedly not in a bottle). But on top of that, it’s a great metaphor for what happens at the end.

James H

Did you suspect they were still in the matrix- I mean the holodeck before it was revealed?

Evan Guthrie

A big costume mix up occurs in this episode. Picard goes into the holodeck in his Captains Jacket uniform and comes out in the regular one. Probably should have been naked or in his space underwear. 😬

Jon1701

This episode makes me enjoy the first Moriarty one even more.

Paul Rymer

Moriarty, Barclay and holodeck mindfuck? Hell yes this is a banger!

Phil Ken Sebben

This episode would have been the perfect opportunity to finally acknowledge that Pulaski existed again. Moriarty made a genuine connection with her in his first episode.

JStrong

What an episode to come back from the DS9 detour with! Love that Barclay gets to finally be in an episode where it's not about one of his phobias or neuroses.

THE LORE!!!

Love this episode Brent was very happy they got to use Sherlock Homes again.
