My head canon says... Josh really loved this episode. He just needed to manufacture a controversy to dispense with the tier system. Very smart, Josh...
Nah, really though how could you just hate it? Guinan background, Data big hustling at poker... Those alone protect it from E, right?
No, but hey, I'm a new patron, long time watcher. Sorry about all generationalist hate on YouTube. I'm Gen X and just appreciate younger generation becoming Trekkies. I've already converted everyone I know, so have enjoyed getting to watch again with first timers. Your long timers know you're educated and read books... I never knew the world was so sensitive about Mark Twain...
Thank you though really, and keep Treking it up! Your predictions and analyses are unparalleled and much appreciated (usually)!

I read Fahrenheit 451 in high school. Good read.

Actually I'm 60 and know because I read. It was a fair question. I also know Huxley, Wells, Verne, Doyle, Asimov & Bradbury but understand the march of time and know that popularity or memory recede as new works and mediums fill the times.
Btw....Fahrenheit 451 is a great one to read about now.

Can't believe all the comments on that video. And to be fair, I think there's a good chance people only know Samuel Clemmons because they watch YouTube videos and see other people complaining about reactors not knowing who he is. I wouldn't have known if not for my brother finding his autograph in my grandmother's estate during the early 90s. Unfortunately, no android head in the same box.

I only learned recently there was a real life bar owner named Guinan who was famous in prohibition and hung out with gangsters.

I think part 2 will redeem it a little, but just a little, once they see it. This would have been better as a special 2-hour episode or at least not been cliffhanger over a summer.

Guinan... Nothing more need be said... However I do enjoy the plot, the build up and Data centric episodes are always good Trek. Solid B for me. I can understand your thoughts and can't wait to see what you make of part 2.

While it certainly bums me out when y'all's enjoyment doesn't match up with the prevailing feeling from the community, I rarely find fault in your critque. You are fairly consistent on what types of stories, themes, and performances you don't dig on. People who get bent out of shape about it are a bit silly.
Inner Light and Darmok are perfect though and you were wrong about those (jk...kinda)
Also, maybe I am the weirdo, but the dissenting opinion is more interesting to me.
What's the point of even watching a reaction If I only felt the reactions were valid if they matched to my expectation or conformed to the fan consensus? Like a big echo chamber to make me feel like my enjoyment is the correct enjoyment? That just seems lame.
That being said, I hated TNG for years and only came to enjoy after rewatching with friends, so hearing Alex and Josh bump up against some of the same things that bugged me back in the day is kinda fun. Maybe they will come back to it 10-20 years later like I did and find new things to enjoy.

The cool part is we're still allowed to enjoy the episodes that Josh and Alex don't.

Just have the entire episode be Data at a 19th century gambling table.
