The Enterprise version of the theme is better than the Star Trek: Enterprise version of the theme. The latter version is too busy. I also prefer this version of the DS9 theme for the most part.

It took a while for me to let go of TNG as my favorite show, even while begrudgingly acknowledging that DS9 was, "Okay, fine, I'll say it's good." Nowadays, TNG will always have a special place in my heart. It's fantastic. Definitely gets an A grade. DS9 is S-Tier. Can't wait for the boys' reactions!

I never listened to the theme without the actual visuals that come with it so listening to it like this made me picture a United Federation of Planets flag waving in the background.

I started as a kid with Next Gen and they have always been my favorite crew, but Deep Space Nine became my favorite Star Trek series. Hearing it just takes me back to that feeling of being an excited kid when a new episode would come on.

I like the cast and characters but the execution is mid. Interesting enough I like the characters on DS9 the least but it is done very well. It is one of my favorite ST shows even though I had to learn to like some characters.

2025-03-15 21:21:07 +0000 UTCAs I've mentioned before I have, with the exception of two episodes, only seen the first two seasons of DS9 and have no real memories of those two seasons. I do like the theme a lot and it'll be interesting to see how you react to the visuals that go along with it. To me it isn't quite as...stirring as the TNG theme, or as I call it "The Theme So Nice They Used It Thrice" since it's also the theme for TMP and ST5 with some variations. I don't know if they used it for anything else. I hope not, or it'll mess up my rhyme. Of course the theme for DS9 will be different since it's a different show.

I heard that its because u cant rewatch a series and have the same emotions/feelings u had when first watching it, the excitement happiness and everything else is just not as big as in the first watch. BUT since humans are social creatures with empathy u can get a solid portion of this initial emotions by watching someone you like also enjoying a series for the first time. (Thats also the reason u try to get your friends/partners watch certain things most of the time :D ) rly interesting thing I think.

I think it also modified the themesongs to be more in that 90s TV theme too, but dont pin me down on that detail (years since I watched it)

2025-03-15 19:16:30 +0000 UTCOne good thing about doing release order is you'll be able to notice how the episodes of both shows were used to cross promote each other during this period. Mainly using TNG to lure people over to DS9. One strategy being airing 5 DS9 episodes in a row with no TNG to compete with it for a while. The promotion strategies die off after DS9 season 1, but it's interesting to watch what they did. Some strategies worked, some didn't. Like blowing a huge budget and promoting the hell out of an episode that's considered to be the worst of the entire series.

The transition into the main theme is french horn heavy with some trumpets over the top. The first time through the main theme is trumpets. The "interlude" is french horns. Trumpets return for the main theme, with french horns doubling the melody. So it goes back and forth between trumpets and horns being the dominant instrument. There are two sections where trumpets are the main instrument carrying the melody and two where french horns are, but the two runs through the main theme are trumpet dominant.

There are many, many ways in which this series takes everything you tend to most like in TNG and ramps it up to about 10,000 (eg, there are long stretches where pretty much every episode is something like The Bonding or The Wounded, with the highlights from these runs being like a super distilled, better version of those TNG episodes) but then there have also been episodes of TNG which you have really hated for reasons which could be boiled down to your not liking those elements which are most DS9-like.... so it will be extremely interesting to see how the reactions play out over time. There is a S6 TNG episode that I think might give some good insight into how well you'll like some of what is generally considered the best of DS9, so I am also pretty excited to see that reaction.

Looking forward to your reactions particularly to the first 3 seasons. - a lot of people have this view that DS9 got good from s4 onwards but I love s2 and s3 and s1 has some outstanding eps. I like that the main melody starts with a single trumpet and then by the end of the theme, there are several layers when that melody comes back. And speaking of NIN, the bass is actually just synthesizer rocking a long drone note... so not too far off.
