2025-07-19 15:19:58 +0000 UTCThe movie is so wild, because Rebecca Sugar was paying attention to the fan theories, and made the film a love letter to them. Full-on Broadway musical of Nora, and her Crystal Gems Bismuth, Lapis, Nephrite and Opal (new character for the movie), struggling in a post-Apocalyptic shattered world left behind by the Cluster. Together with the survivors from Beach City, they battle against Emerald's space fleet to conquer Homeworld, only to find that the Diamonds have retreated into their palace, broken emotionally by the loss of Pink and allowing their empire to run automatically by the Council - White's Pearl (original Pearl), Sapphire and her Ruby giants, and Peridot, who direct their armies under Emerald and Jasper (who's army includes all the Amethysts from the Zoo and original Amethyst). Nora and her friends realize that they can defeat their opponents through the power of Broadway musical numbers, homaging classics like West Side Story, the King and I, Oliver, Annie, and some others (Jasper being taken down in an epic re-imagining of "I am the Model of a Modern Major General is my favorite), before realizing that Nora is Pink Diamond, so she can heal the (emotionally) shattered Diamonds and bring peace the galaxy. Very cool, but I wish we had gotten more development for the Crystal Gems, and less time with the humans. It was cool to see more of Pirate Captain Lars, and Sadie Killer and the Suspects as the Jets from West Side Story was cool, but I hated that they made Rinaldo a heroic bad-ass, and Jamie just wasn't convincing as a sword-wielding romantic hero.

2025-06-27 23:44:50 +0000 UTCYes, but it's also most likely because Rebecca Sugar has said many times before that Ruby and Sapphire is inspired by her own relationship with Ian Jones Quartey. How she relates a lot to Ruby and Ian is Sapphire. So it's primarily based on what she wanted, and got, from her own wedding. The whole F U to censors in other countries is just a cherry on top.

But I had never worn one before and apparently it was on backwards and I didn't know until I posted a photo on my Scottish Family Heritage FB group. Then everyone came for me. So embarassing.

She literally is a boy in certain countries as a form of censorship, to make Ruby and Saphire a straight couple. So by putting Ruby in a dress, it backfired on those countries horribly, as they now have a boy in a dress. Now you might think, “oh, they could just not air this episode”. And you’d be right. EXCEPT! Second: They made this episode a big one plot wise. I mean, the diamonds literally invade earth personally. How do you skip that? Only the most petty countries will skip the episode. The episode with a boy in a dress
