His surname "Newgate" is likely inspired by London's notorious Newgate Prison, which throughout history incarcerated and executed many famous outlaws, including iconic pirates such as William Kidd, and also several crew members of the real-life "King of the Pirates" Henry Avery. His favorite foods are any Alcoholic Beverages and Cheap Food. And his least favorite food is "Kopi luwak" (civet coffee). Oda has stated that Whitebeard wishes all the Nurses in the world wore Leopard Print Stockings. Oda also jokingly stated that Whitebeard once had a dog, named Stefan, who had a near-identical mustache. But by far the best "Fun Fact" (because this is never stated in the anime) is that Whitebeard's weapon... his Naginata.... is actually one of the 12 Supreme Grade Blades, making it the second Supreme Grade weapon we have seen in the story so far... after Mihawk's Sword "Yoru". The name of the Naginata is "Murakumogiri", which roughly translates to "Gathering-Clouds Cutter".
