HAZBIN HOTEL 2X7 "Weapon of Mass Distraction" Full Length Reaction

Comments

I have to wonder if they anticipated the fandom reaction to that "Alastor was mean to him" scene, since these last few episodes have gone out of their way to show that no, Vox was an absolute monster in life, and he's even worse now. There is definitely a subset of the fandom that needs to be reminded that, no matter how lovable these characters may be, they are in Hell for a reason, especially the villains. XD That said, "Brighter" (already my new favorite song and I downloaded it immediately) does make that scene stand out even more, since we've seen how Vox deals with literally anyone else he considers a "rival". So I'm sticking with my initial interpretation that he was so charmed by Alastor that it was a genuine moment of vulnerability on his part, that he paid the price for. So I can still feel sorry for him in that sense, because that sort of thing can happen to anyone. It does make for an interesting villain dynamic too, of a cult leader who can manipulate anyone around him, yet is such a pathetically easy mark for this one guy in particular that he's clearly obsessed with despite all claims to the contrary.

Of course, I also think this issue can be attributed to the “8 episode season” thing every service does now and I’m over it 😔

I feel like this show and Helluva Boss have the same type of problem but on different ends of the spectrum. I always felt like Helluva felt kind of Stagnant at points, like the arcs (be it story or character) would barely advance, while with Hazbin, it feels like they present a problem and then wrap it up immediately or just too quickly rather than letting us sit with the problem and actually feel the scale of it. It ends up making the plotlines feel kind of shallow. I think the second season improved on it a bit but I still don’t like the “question quickly gets answered” or “problem followed by convenient solution” whether it’s for the protags or the antagonists. I still haven’t seen the last episode but I see it has a longer runtime so maybe they pull something that quells my feelings but idk. I still like this show but I find myself feeling a little dissatisfied by the plot a lot of the time.
