Crazy how two gumball episodes back to back somehow comment on the current state of the world and politics. I love how essential some characters are in Gumball that they are literally so important, or else Elmore wouldn’t function. Like you said, with Larry having most of the jobs, and also like Richard, whose whole role is to never get a job or else the universe gets destroyed. Alan, being another functioning cog that makes Elmore run makes a lot of sense. The song in the faith prob has to be my favorite song in season 6, I just love the little tune talking about how the world is gray and things only seem to be getting worse, to then transition into a beautiful verse that reminds us why we keep going. The visuals def carry the song as well, they really went hard with the animation this season. In case you were wondering, The Candidate was made in 2016, so you can prob guess why they made this episode considering the political landscape at the time (funny tho that some of the stuff here is still relevant to this day) I like the subtle joke that Darwin keeps talking about the temperature as a metaphor for global warming, and yet everyone continues to ignore him, only for him to be right to be concerned at the end. You're not entirely wrong on the later seasons of Gumball feeling a little different; it's not so that they are leaning into talking about politics, but it's more about how they tackle commentary in general. This episode in particular, I agree, is a bit on the nose more than usual episodes, but at this point, Gumball has had plenty of commentary episodes throughout its whole runtime, so it's natural that over time the commentary would be tackling more serious topics while maintaining the usual Gumball charm. I mean if you really think back to previous episodes of Gumball, this episode isn't too different than the time Gumball commented on Apple products (The Upgrade), 'video games cause violence' mentality (The Blame), censorship (The Safety), gentrification (The Nuisance), the Star Wars fandom (The Line), gender inequality (The Worst), and wayy more.
