ADVENTURE TIME 6X28 "The Mountain" Full Length Reaction

This episode is the reason why Garnet's character from Steven Universe never fully sit right with me. The concept of several beings fusing into one single entity for prolonged periods of time, giving up their own identities and individualistic thoughts in order to find "Inner Peace" is just messed up, specially when the individuals composing said single entity are ones who are not at peace with themselves (which were definitely the case for Ruby and Sapphire in SU). And what happens when a big amount of time passes and you rip apart the one entity and all the it's composing parts go back to being individuals?...... they fall into madness, they can't handle the reality and crave to go back to being a hive-mind, some even choosing death over an existence when they can no longer be one entity. And for the record...I know SU is different from AT and the same rules don't apply to both universes... but it still freaked me out a little bit.

well said, this episode is nothing if not thought provoking!

As a recap, in Lemon Hope part two, the fat lemongrab was defeated by lemonhope, and Princess Bubblegum merged the two Lemongrabs back together again, which basically reset him back to his usual self, which is still Lemongrab. This episode is def really weird, but from what I can understand of it: The episode is about Lemongrab and Finn trying to find inner peace. Lemongrab is a fundamentally uncomfortable person, and even after being formed back to normal, he still feels uncomfortable about himself. Which was why he wanted to seek out Matthew after looking at the mural; he wanted to feel at peace. The mountain seems to only accept people who are troubled with themselves, like Finn and Lemongrab, which would explain why Jake wasn't allowed to enter the cave because Jake already feels inner peace within himself (as shown in 'Jake The Brick'). The three mirrors that are presented to Lemongrab and Finn represent their desires (Lemongrab wants to be accepted by Bubblegum, and Finn wants to get back with the Flame Princess, etc.). But they would choose the third option, which would represent themselves (the two lemongrabs and Finn's previous life as a butterfly), which would be the correct choice as being one with yourself is how one would achieve inner peace. When confronting Matthew, lemongrab was able to see Matthew for what he truly is: a being who wishes to live in inner peace beyond time by adding those who have lost themselves and desire to become one with Matthew (which is kinda messed up). Lemongrab would not accept this and would see through Matthew's empty promise of inner peace, he would retaliate by throwing the lemon candies into Matthew, and since the candies are made up of himself and his feelings of uncertainness, he breaks up Matthew's perfection, releasing all the trapped people. Lemongrab would return home and patch up the crack in the mural, showing his satisfaction with being himself, that he may as well be grease. There are def plenty of interpretations out there but this one seemed pretty interesting.
