ADVENTURE TIME 6X25 "Astral Plane" Full Length Reaction

Comments

[THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG COMMENT MIKEY, JUST SO YOU KNOW] I recently watched a youtube analysis of this episode.... and i realized just how packed it was. The video obviously talked about what Finn was wondering the whole episode.... "what is the meaning of life?" but before that point... the analysis also pointed out the way people suffer from isolation. The episode itself showed us a moment of the lives of 4 different characters.... and out of those 4 characters we can discern at least 2 types of sufferers.... The first type is those who create their own suffering, either knowingly or unknowingly... Mr. Fox is the first example of this first type, he's a lonely guy who lives on a small cabin and he's crearly depressed, not only that.... he's so lonely that even when he's dreaming (which is a form of astral projection) he still only dreams of being sit on the side of his bed.... doing Sudoku. Mr. Fox creates his own suffering by isolating himself from others so he can avoid feeling emotional pain and disappointment, this was the result of him being rejected by his crush... Boobafina the duck in the episode "Storytelling" back in season 2. But Ice King... who is the other example of the firs type of sufferers... is even worse. While Mr. Fox is an "alone" loner..... Ice King is a loner..... in a crowd, even when he's surrounded by people he's still completely alone, he tries to be nice and form connections but he lacks the self-awareness to realize that he's simply unpleasant... he lies and grandstands himself in order to impress strangers but all he manages to do is making people ignore him like Lauren or people looking for him only for what he can do (create ice for drinks), not for who he is. And when he doesn't get his way he lashes out and ruins everyone's good time, shrugging it off as "this party was weak anyway" to not recognize that he is the problem. He unknowingly creates his own suffering. Then we get the second type of sufferers.... those who suffer isolation by circumstance... The first example is Bounce-house Princess, she tries to be outgoing and genuinely friendly but she ends up isolating herself but for a good reason.... safety. The World is a very dangerous place and Bounce-house Princess is a very fragile being... obviously, when the porcupine enters her home she panics and tries to hide to no avail... but even facing danger she still tries to look at the bright side and hopes to actually interact with the porcupine without getting hurt...... which of course ends up failing as well. This is a good allegory for people with disabilities who... despite everything... still try to live life to the fullest. Marceline is the other example.... she suffers isolation because she's an inmortal being living in a mortal world, almost everything and everyone she loves will eventually wither and die, which of course makes her really sad... and she uses that sadness to inspire her songs... creativity that comes from sadness, just like Finn wondered. Then Finn witnesses the birth of a Space Lard... and he says that that was creative but not sad... and deduces that maybe Birth is single best act in all of creation. But then he asks.... what are we suppose to do after that? Which is question he does to Glob, who is a God... "If just being born is the greatest act of creation then.... what are you suppose to do after that? isn't everything that comes next sort of a disappointment? slowly entropying until we diflate into a pile of mush?" And Glob says.... "is not enough to have created something amazing right? what if i just let my Martian Super-Society go to Butt?" trying to convince Finn that there is indeed a meaning to life after Birth. But that wasn't an answer to Finn's question so then he adds... "But... what's it worth if we're all gonna get blowed up right now?" to which Glob decides to apply the "show don't tell" approach and sacrifice themselves to both repel the "Comet" as well as giving Finn a sorta-satisfying answer. The final take-away of the analysis is that.... Suffering forces creativity..... and creativity is what makes life worth living. Suffering is part of the very fabric of reality, you simply can't escape it.... so you might as well use it as fuel... to create something worth dying for. It's a very good video, and it's completely Spoiler-Free, i'll leave the link to it right here in case you wanna watch it for yourself. https://youtu.be/MXg4Bp0Fj-g?si=-dC58ch2vUH2Q3vS
