Violet vs Mackenzie - Chapter 3

Violet and Mackenzie finally meet!

+++

"1917? Grant me a holy fuck!" Mackenzie's body levitated in the air, wisps of smoke weaving around her exposed legs as she peered down at the desolate land below. What was once a bustling city now lay in ruins, reduced to a smoldering crater—all thanks to the intense blast of heat vision that erupted from her eyes just moments ago.

According to Mackenzie, these citizens did not deserve anything less for constantly bombarding her with nonsensical claims that it was 1917.

Fueled by her belief that they were all plotting against her sanity, she felt justified in seeking revenge and causing their demise.

However, she couldn't ignore the fact that these people's clothing and hairstyles gave off a very old-fashioned vibe. And were those actual horses walking down the streets?

It seemed implausible to her that the entire town would go to such lengths just to make her believe she had traveled back in time.

Her fingers trailed along the fabric of the verdant silk dress she was wearing, feeling its smoothness against her skin. With a look of disdain, she glanced down at the garment hastily acquired from some fashion store before embarking on her destructive rampage through the city.

A thunderous sonic boom followed as Mackenzie blasted off as she soared through the air, scanning for more signs of life in this land she believed to be America.

No matter where she flew, Mackenzie continuously saw signs confirming what others had told her—that she was indeed in 1917.

Suddenly, a feminine voice jolted her out of her contemplative state, saying, "Did you do that?"

Being thousands of feet up in the air, surrounded by clouds and wind, it was unusual for someone to speak to her. She turned around to see another girl, roughly her age, floating in the air just like her. The sheer surprise on her face was evident as she took in the sight.

"Hey, lamebrain, I asked you something! Did you do that?" The girl pointed in the direction of the remnants of a massive mushroom cloud in the distance, its ominous shape casting a shadow over the wrecked landscape, its daunting plume of smoke twisting and swirling through the air.

Mackenzie's twinkling eyes scrutinized the girl soaring in front of her. She was undeniably pretty, almost as comely as her, with delicate features and black hair that cascaded down her back. However, what intrigued Mackenzie the most was her attire, as the girl was wrapped in what looked to be a torn-off curtain. It was a comical sight.

As the girl waited for an answer to her question, Mackenzie couldn't help but snicker, a hint of amusement dancing across her pretty features.

"Are you laughing at me?" the girl said, her voice laced with annoyance.

"Yes!" Mackenzie said, her laughter bubbling out of her with uncontrollable force. She doubled over, clutching her stomach and struggling to speak through her giggles. "You look like a… a… I don't know what the hell you look like, but it's ridiculous, that's for sure!" Her guffaws echoed through the air.

Violet's face twisted into a scowl, her hands balling into fists. "Are you calling me ridiculous?"

Mackenzie pointed a finger at Violet, her laughter bursting out even louder. "Now, who's the lamebrain!"

Her giggles echoed through the air, drowning out even the strong wind tugging at their clothing and hair.

Violet's steely blue eyes darkened with determination, and she surged forward with lightning speed, her knee aimed to strike the petite girl in the stomach like a sharp dagger.

But to her surprise, the girl moved with surprising agility, causing Violet's knee to meet only air.

Before she could recover, a sudden pain shot through her body, causing her to grit her teeth in pain. Something had struck her fiercely in the back, knocking the breath out of her lungs and momentarily paralyzing her with shock.

Her body would have been cannoned away, weren't it for the fact that a pair of hands grabbed her by her hair, pulling her violently backward.

The blond girl's countenance came into view, their noses almost touching. The corners of her lips turned up into a gleaming smile. The girl gave Violet a gleaming smile. "I miss you already, and you're not even gone," With startling speed, Mackenzie's fist swung up and crashed into Violet's left cheek with a powerful force, sending shockwaves of pain through her jaw and skull.

This time, Violet’s lithe body was propelled with incredible force, soaring through the air like a cannonball. The wind whistled past her ears, whipping strands of her hair across her face.

As she shook her head to clear her vision, she opened her eyes and was met with the girl flying alongside her. "Who are you? Why are you able to fly like me?" she said.

Violet's gaze turned to the girl's outdated dress, her face twisting with disgust. Her eyes glowed a fiery red, like smoldering coals. "None of your business, fashion fossil!"

Mackenzie's eyes stretched wide with shock as she knew she could not evade the burst of heat vision this girl was about to unleash on her.

A scream erupted from her lips as a searing, all-consuming pain ripped through her body, mercilessly disintegrating the delicate silk fabric of her dress.

"Ugh! Bitch! Now I'm naked again!"

Violet's eyebrows furrowed in confusion and intrigue at Mackenzie's reaction.

"You were naked before?"

"Yes! Just a while ago, before I was spat out into this godforsaken place."

"I was spat out too not long ago."

Both girls looked at each other with fascination. "Who are you? Where are you from?" they stated simultaneously.

"I was first! No, I was!" They started again simultaneously.

"Wanna fight about it?" Violet clenched her fist.

Mackenzie sighed. "I think we just did. But maybe we should clear things up before deciding whether or not to continue fighting."

Violet struck a thoughtful pose. "Sounds reasonable to me. Okay, the name's Violet and I'm from planet Earth, it’s marvelous and most illustrious ruler." She ran her fingers through her dark tresses with a hint of pride in her beauty.

Mackenzie looked puzzled. "I'm also from planet Earth, and I'm its ruler as well. I never heard about you."

Violet let out a derisive snort. "Never heard of you either, but I'm the planet's ruler nonetheless. Perhaps you were too inconsequential to be noticed by me."

Mackenzie disregarded the last comment and inquired, "What year was it on your planet?"

            "Why, 2023, of course."

"That's odd... it was also 2023 on my planet. And you're certain that your planet is called Earth?"

"That's what I said, didn't I?"

"Mmm, we do speak the same language. What country are you from?"

"America."

"Is there a Europe on your Earth?"

Violet nodded.

"And Africa and the North pole also exist there?"

Violet nodded again. "Just like there's a Pacific Ocean and bickering politicians who think they know it all better than me. I have found that reducing their cities to rubble is the most effective way to silence them, by the way."

Mackenzie pondered, resting her chin on her hand. "It seems to me like we both sprouted from our own parallel universe and subsequently been spit out in his one that looks just like our own, only set a century in the past. The only question is, how do we get back?"

"What if we can't?" Violet said.

"Excuse me?"

"I said, what if we're both stuck here for the rest of our lives?"

"No, no, no, no. That's impossible," Mackenzie said, desperation creeping into her voice. There's got to be a way for us to get back. It just has to. I can't live being stuck here in this place. With you," Mackenzie added.

Violet let out a derisive snort. "Yeah, because being stranded here with you is a blast."

"How did you end up here?" Mackenzie asked.

Violet shrugged. "I was reprimanding some of my subordinates when I ended up here."

"I was pretty much doing the same thing," Mackenzie said. "I assume you did not use your powers under the guidance of a moral compass on your planet?"

Violet snorted. "Why should I?"

"Indeed, why should you," Mackenzie could not agree more. "Could it be that the universe or some force beyond it is the cause of all this?"

Violet frowned. "You're talking gibberish."

"That's because you're stupid!"

"Wanna fight?" Violet clenched her fist.

Mackenzie sighed. "Karma, ever heard of it?"

"Yeah, sure."

"What if this is our retribution for all the wrongs we've done to innocent people back in our own world?"

"Perhaps. But I fail to comprehend how that information will assist us in our return."

"Think about it: we were engaged in wrongdoing when the universe chose to engulf and transport us here. If we repeat those actions, the universe may do the same again and bring us back to where we belong, deeming us unworthy of this place.”

"Or it could spit us out in a place that's even worse than this.” Violet said. “And excuse me for saying this, but isn't the whole point of karma to accumulate positive energy by doing good deeds rather than diving into behaviors that are even worse than what you have already done?"

A chill ran down Mackenzie's back at the thought of using her abilities to make a genuine difference in people's lives. "Are you willing to do so?"

"Absolutely not!" Violet said.

"Then it's settled! We're going unleash so much hell on this planet that the universe cannot do anything else than to bring us back home!"
