The goal of this mod is to make looking for a job more interesting and a little bit harder. This is now a Vanilla Plus mod, meaning that it adds on top of Maxis without replacing or changing what's there already, specifically this adds a system of Job Postings BEFORE you get into a career, without touching the existing careers in any way.

The mod hides and replaces the look for job interaction on the phone (that can be unlocked at any time in case of need):

Instead of opening the career selector, looking for a job will now bring up Job Postings:

It will also unlock a skill:

This skill affects how likely it is that certain jobs will show up when you look through the postings. It also affects how many posting you can browse, how well your Sim will do in job interviews and, to a smaller extent, how well their resume will look.

You can only browse up to 6 (on max skill) postings after which the interaction to look for a job will be locked for 24h:

You have two ways to get hired once you've found the job you want: "contact the employer" or "send the resume."

Contact the Employer

Your Sim will make a call and be offered a Job Interview. This is a direct and easy way to get hired.

If you choose "go later," you'll have 12 hours to go. This choice is available on both the phone and your Sims:

The Sim will leave and you'll be presented with questions:

How well you answer these questions will decide what will happen to your Sim:

The notifications give you a clue on how well you're doing:

Low level Employment Exploring skill can hurt you in the interview, but if you have a high level, it can help you.

Once done, you'll have to wait a couple of days for the results, during this time you cannot look for another job:

If your Sim gets hired, you can choose to accept the job or not. Accepting the job will put you right into the career:

Sending a Resume

You can write a resume on the PC at level 3 of Employment Exploring skill.

If you send a resume, you can send more than one at once, which is a plus. The better your resume, the more likely you are to get hired. Once the message has been sent, the company will call back within 72 hours. How good your resume is will rest on how good you are at finding jobs, how good you are at writing, and how much experience you have.

Work Experience!

Maxis's jobs fall into seven main categories. They are more likely to hire you if you have a lot of experience in their area and a good education.

By levelling up the skill, you can gain the option to check your Sims experience on your phone:

Volunteering, part-time work, and freelancing all give you more experience as you move up the job ladder. Owning a business also gives you experience, which is something that school, even college, can't give you. So even if your Sims spend half their lives learning, they might not have enough experience to get a job! Teens, while excluded from the finding job system, can both level up the skill and get experience in a field with part-time jobs and after-school activities.

While University Students and adults in general have the option to attend Professional courses:

These are not compatible with having a job (you'll have to leave the job to attend a course), but are compatible with University Classes! The option to join a course is unlocked by levelling up the skill.

Levelling Up

The skill goes up each time you look for a job, to speed it up, there are books:

Debug Cheats

There are cheats for almost every aspect:

Testingcheats on and SHIFT+CLICK on a Sim

If you need Maxis career selection, you can unlock it with the cheats. Maxis career selection is also accessible from the Part-time jobs selection (click on the "work" or "all" category on top.)

Comments

There are courses to attend. They gain experience from going to work. Experience doesn't bar a Sim from getting the job.

How do Sims gain experience? I eventually want my Sim to be in the Social Media career so how do I help her gain expreince to help in that field?

Sarah Holley

I'd need the LE to check. Can you drop it on a file sharing site and give me the link?

Jordan

Hi, I'm having trouble with writing the resume. when i click on the option in the computer, the sim will reset and I get BE exception alerts

Beatriz F. Silva

SelenaNemi

wew this is so good, thank you

The Slinging Slasher

Could be that the required flag buff isn't given. For which job is it happening?

Jordan

Hey, Zero! I love this mod; thank you for sharing it with us. I'm running into an issue in a certain scenario; I've done a ton of trouble-shooting on my own and can't find anything that speaks to my issue online, so I'm hoping you may be able to help. In only one case, with a specific sim, I am unable to trigger the interview pop-up for a sim who (I believe) has been accepted to move forward with a potential job opportunity; they're also unable to travel to their interview by phone. For this sim, the "declined for an interview" pop-up triggers when appropriate. But in other cases, they'll go through the "contact the employer" call, they won't be declined, they'll hang up the phone -- and that's it, no popup and no travel option. When I go to "find a job" again, a pop-up asks me if I'm sure that I want to cancel the in-progress job opportunity (presumably the one with the untriggered interview event). I don't believe this is a mod conflict issue, as I can get the interview event to trigger for other sims/households in the same save with no problem. There seems to be something "wrong" with my current sim/household that makes them incompatible with the interview process somehow? (Which, I guess, could be due to some sort of conflict regarding the sim's traits? They are "lazy"?) Sorry for the novel; I wanted to provide more detail than less, in case you have any clue what might be happening in my case. Thanks again for this mod, and for any insight you can provide.

Elizabeth

There doesnt seem to be a link for this mod for me. I click on downloads it sends me to curseforge and I click on files and the .zip doesn't have anywhere to click on it to download.

AL

OMG I need this. I liked it better in the older games too that you just had to wait for a job posting in the paper or whatever and you don't just get every job handed on a silver platter right away. Excellent!

Darksimz

This mod is great. I started my sim as a young adult and didn’t want to do university, so the process to get certified in the tech field and then the long process of applying and waiting for a response. Very rewarding.

Dennis Jackson

Everything needs updating for the new patch including this one. I'm getting to it don't worry.

Jordan

Can you tell me if this is compatible with the October 22, 2024 update and where I can find the download for it? The most recent update on Curseforge is from April.

Jessica Vandevender

Where can I download it?

Sara Azadi

Make sure you updated the core library to version 1.16 and that it's not in a subfolder.

Zero_

Hi, I really love this mod idea, I actually had it before and it worked fine, but after the update I had to reinstall the mods and now this mod won't show up in my game at all. I've installed everything you have suggested, but the job application process still seems to be the frustratingly, easy EA process that exists in game. Does it conflict with any other mod at all or is there something I am missing?

Ashanti

Perfect! Thank you!

dipsiesnows

Yes

Zero_

Hi, is this still compatible with the newest core library (for the december patch)

dipsiesnows

custom jobs don't pop-up unless added, you need to unlock maxis interaction to join a custom career

Jordan

I'm looking forward to trying this - sounds fun and makes life more difficult for Sims (who deserve it...heee). It had to take a lot of work to put this together, so Thanks!

Baroness Bat

I have the same Problem

Blacklady

Hey, the custom jobs don's seem to show up when using this mod. Do you still have to unlock the employment skill to see other types of jobs?

Christine Reynolds

Yep, you just need to unlock the interaction (or switch category from the part-time job menu)

Jordan

Sometimes you have to cut things down to manageable size. I guess the old way of finding a job will still work then with the custom careers.

Sam D.

This is amazing, I didn't even know I needed this but it's so good. The Sims community (most of whom are those dopes who have tried to 'cancel' you) don't deserve your talents!! But we are grateful :)

Alex Ryan

I really wasn't having any problems with it at all.

Christine Reynolds

it's outdated, you're going to miss features and I don't want to keep that override up anymore because it's a pain it the arse, maxis messes with careers constantly

Jordan

It's been working fine with the career block file

Christine Reynolds

Do you mean the career lock file? How comes that can't be used anymore?

Christine Reynolds

This is a new mod, the old one is fine if you prefer that one as long as you don't use the careers block file

Zero_

Can we still keep the old one, or is it necessary to delete it?

Christine Reynolds

without overrides it's unlikely

Zero_

This looks awesome! I never tried the old one, but defo trying this. Getting a job is way too easy lol. Now I only wish there was a way to get them weekly payments instead of daily but idk if that's even possible :P

Freyya_

Originally I had planned of including a way to add in custom careers, but as the mod grew the massive amount of strings needed for each career discouraged me.

Jordan

This is awesome! Thank you for remaking this, which is one of my favorite mods.

Tiffany Edmonds

This looks amazing and much needed! And I see you had fun with the descriptions! So I gather custom careers will be unaffected by this system, sort of exist outside of it?

Sam D.
