2025-08-14 23:24:25 +0000 UTCBtw, when Rebecca Sugar wrote the song “I Can Never Be Ready for This”, it was inspired by Cartoon Network telling her they were canceling Steven Universe earlier than she expected. She thought she’d have like 2-3 more seasons than she ended up having for the original series. So she ended up rushing the pacing for season 5 to finish the story. Then, the show blew up and as she was in the middle of producing season 5, CN wanted to extend the run of the show, but she already had everything planned for the ending. So they came up with the idea to do the movie, and then CN didn’t want to do the movie unless they had something afterward for the movie to promote, so that’s how Future happened, and Sugar was able to use Future to discuss some of the loose ends and deal with themes she wanted the original series to explore.
