If those protesters are yelling about "Save the Eighty Six," does that really leave any uncertainty in regards to what country Ernst is referring to? I am seriously alarmed that this was confusing, brother. 30:40 Lena's uncle was PRESUMING that there would be other countries around IF they all survived the Legion. And IF San Magnolia knows of other countries, it would be because one or two were way closer to San Magnolia, but that was never said. Lena's uncle's words said nothing of a certainty.

I can say that you saw Shin and them heading almost directly east when they left San Magnolia, so despite deviations in their navigating, just think of San Magnolia being surrounded by Legion territory, and Giad is a good while east of San Magnolia. I mean, Spearhead was traveling for weeks and still didn't quite make it to Giad.

(It was shown more in the light novel but they dont explain it well in the anime nor touch on it again after this episode) It was Shin's brother, Rei who saved them. Before he fully was deleted he managed to transfer his consciousness to another machine. He saved Shin and the others from the legion attack and carried all of them to Giad before finally passing on. When he tells Shin that he can't go any further but he has his friends with him now, that was because that was his final moments alive. It is shown in the episode Ernst and the others talking about an old model Dinosauria that they found with Shin and co. That was why they were initially very skeptical of them, and not just because they were the first outside visitors to the Federacy.
