25:23 Lena's quivering lip...the one tear....gets me every damn time. 26:35 Like..legit. This anime totally could have ended right here, and I believe it would have been just as popular, if not more so. I mean, I don't know of many animes/LNs that have 80% of the main cast die in the end. That weird shite totally would have been received greatly.

She wrote "86"(whatever it was titled then) for a competition and it was received with such fervent adoration and praise, and so, so, so many requests being made for more of it, she ended up changing what she needed to to continue the story. Every time I discuss this, I gotta point out that, in that other reality, where "86" ends with Spearhead Squadron finding their end on that battlefield and Vladilena Milizé visiting the place Shin and Co. called home, in reverence for how she was not able to keep them alive, I could ABSOLUTELY see that story becoming a spectacular cult hit. I see a massive number of fans around the world praising Asato Asato for one of the more sorrowful, insightful, and forlorn contemporary war tales, all while the lamenting screams of "More!!! More, damn it!!!" echo across the internet. I like to imagine that timeline, where I find and read "86" many years after it was written, and I see myself weeping and choking on any words I try to say, as I think of what a magnificent story it was and thinking "If only it kept going...." Fascinating.

I think the Republic figured out how to put an animals mind into a machine but not how to copy a humans otherwise there is no reason for them to be slowly killing off the 86, they could just do it all at once and replace them with robots.
