Enjoyed the reaction! Going into this fairly cold after just seeing Fate/Zero and Fate UBW, and Heavens Feel. Obviously something is a bit off about Gray, but considering what some otherwise human mage-kids go through (e.g., Sakura with the worms) who knows? The one other Fate I've seen is the first part of Fate Strange Fake and I think that has some of the same Clock Tower characters as we saw here.

But that is only the later half of the anime. The first half that you're about to watch is anime original. Also this prologue and the special after the anime all are anime originals. Why they can't adapt shits in order? That is the real "don't worry about it" cuz it doesn't make sense to adapt things in such a way but that is Fate anime for you. 2. The "Game Select" is a Trigger to activate Magic Circuits. Just like the "Set" of Rin or the "Trace On" of Shirou. Is just a word to use as command, so it can be anything the mage want it to be. 3. The mercury familiar is called Volumen Hydrargryrum. And I don't think that is a common familiar. Is one of the greatest archivement of Kayneth and is exclusive to the El-Melloi family. 4. The story takes place in 2003. Previous to the start of the 5th Holy Grial War in January 2004.
