I'd been only occasionally checking in on the reaction to this series because the most interesting parts aren't until the 3rei and on, but this episode actually kinda reminded me why I was pretty quick to start reading the manga over the anime. Besides my personal annoyance with the anime adding a bunch of filler (most of which is just fan service), the anime also HEAVILY tones down the brutality of some moments. For example, Illya just sorta has weird bruises near her eyes during this fight. In the manga it's blood leaking out from around her eyes. Kaleid doesn't frequently get that brutal, but when it does in the manga it is so meaningful. It really captures when a character has pushed beyond their limits and the stresses some of them going through during fights, but the anime tones it all down. I get that it's censored for tv, but it still really sucks to see. You get statements that she's tearing herself apart, but you don't really SEE just how damage she's done to herself to save Miyu. That's a real disappointment. I love Kaleid, it's one of my favorite Fate properties ever, but the anime is so disappointing to me. It just never really gets the adaptation it deserves. The first season has too much filler, the second and third are fine, but the fourth just really starts to struggle with animation and pacing towards the end. It's not unwatchable bad, but I couldn't possibly recommend reading the 3rei manga afterwards more. The manga for that story is GORGEOUS and it's such a shame that the anime just fails to live up to that hype. The movie in the manga starts at Chapter 29 of 3rei, so it would be a pretty fast read to just see how differently the manga handles the upcoming season. I'd definitely recommend giving it a quick read after finishing 3rei, it's 100% worth it.

This is cool that in FGO Illya actually has an interlude where he faces Kid Gil again inside the simulator of Chaldea and this time loses to him. Quintet Feuer is a real monster of an attack, as expected of two sticks with ties to the Second Magic. As an fyi, the attack is called "Quintet Feuer" cause it's made up of all five elements that exist across the Nasuverse: fire, water, earth, wind and ether.
