2024-09-01 23:12:01 +0000 UTCWhat happened was that Ritsuko and Gendo were responsible for the changed programming, including the "miracle" at the end. Misato realizes it was all set up to happen that way. The beginning of the episode and the scene near the end with Gendo are making it clear that Nerv is interfering with other groups that aren't already as "in the know."
