Mini-documentary Poll
Added 2025-02-17 11:53:27 +0000 UTCI want everyone to get exceptional value from this Patreon; I have also had a load of comments about sharing specifically the mini-documentaries on the main channel. So I thought I would turn to you guys for expert advice.
So for the occasional mini-docs (normal AI Explained-style vids/pods etc will still be on here only), what would you feel is best?

I can't imagine people paying for old AI documentaries. And old happens fast with AI.

2025-02-21 20:41:14 +0000 UTCI think you should be able to gain additional subscribers based on sharing content that is only available to us or who we share a link with. To those saying your happy with content shared becase of the value of main channel, then your not the audience I think he needs support to reach and keep growing to cover his commitments. (ie we should help if we feel we are getting good value)

2025-02-19 04:21:31 +0000 UTCEchoing what many others have said: No need for exclusivity. You do good work and I'm happy to support spreading high quality information about an important topic!

2025-02-19 02:59:10 +0000 UTCI opted for choice 3. I joined Patreon not for the exclusivity but to financially support you your channel and the excellent work you do. If releasing some extra content helps garner more support and interest in the channel that is a good thing, while still giving the Patreons a sense of value being able to view it early

2025-02-18 00:13:00 +0000 UTCI like both channels, but they don’t need to have the same content with delays. AI Explained could have broader content, while Patreon could focus on more niche, deep-dive topics. Exclusivity is not the key; rather, the chosen subject and the perspective on it are why I value the Patreon.

2025-02-17 20:40:47 +0000 UTCWhile I might selfishly like them on Patreon only, I feel the subject is a bit too important for that. Ultimately, people really need to know what is going on in this space from an unbiased and reflective standpoint. There seems precious little of that elsewhere.

2025-02-17 19:19:05 +0000 UTCI think you'll get the most bang for the buck if you give it to patreon as an early release and then put it on AI explained. that gives Patreon subscribers a little edge while still showing potential subscribers how good your content is and giving them a reason to sign up. there is SO MUCH JUNK out there with people trying to play off GenAI and you are one of the few who doesn't over hype things and just consistently delivers clear and insightful content. We all need you to thrive!

2025-02-17 18:12:22 +0000 UTCI patron because i think it will give me an edge as far as recent developments and applications in AI are concerned. The mini-docs are more entertainment (well, edutainment?) than "insights", so as far as i'm concerned sure they are "nice to have" but i would have been a patron even without them altogether.

2025-02-17 18:00:36 +0000 UTCIn every case, I subscribe to Patreon not to gain access to exclusive content, but because I think the content is important and I want it to be spread to as wide an audience as possible.

2025-02-17 17:34:35 +0000 UTCI feel like you're the only one in a position to answer this, Philip. I think the primary downside to sharing them off Patreon is that some people might not subscribe to Insiders if they could get that content for free... classic case where giving it away for free means you make less money. I was too price sensitive for the $30/mo tier; I could *afford* it but I couldn't *justify it* to myself (which is pretty similar to "can't afford"), but the $10/mo price was enough for me to justify. I have a ~$40/mo Patreon budget and I think this is the only time I've supported a single creator at >$5. If I could have gotten the content for free, I might've patreoned at $3/mo or $5/mo.. or $0/mo. I want everyone to have access to your content. But I don't benefit in any way from the amount of Patreon support you get. I don't have anything on the line here. If you give more out for free, I think you should delay it at least a week to incentivize people to financially support.

2025-02-17 17:00:56 +0000 UTCI think even a month is okay. It's way better than not being able to see them at all.

2025-02-17 16:53:16 +0000 UTCRight after watching the first mini doc, I thought, this needs to be released on YouTube. So my vote is, go ahead, but later at least a bit, mainly because it feels like our support here is appreciated 😍

2025-02-17 15:04:55 +0000 UTCI actually don’t watch most of the videos that are Patreon exclusive because I can’t easily watch it on my TV, where I watch all of YouTube content. So I would prefer to have everything on YouTube and then others can also enjoy it there.

2025-02-17 14:53:49 +0000 UTCI subscribe to the Patreon channel because I feel guilty about how much surplus value I derive from the main channel. The extra content here is a terrific bonus, but I would subscribe even if there was nothing at all here. The documentary is too good not to share more broadly - early access or ad-free viewing for the Patreon subscribers both seem like reasonable alternatives.

2025-02-17 14:51:08 +0000 UTCHi, from my point of view you can release any content to YouTube. I am a Patreon to support you in creating content I enjoy, not to have content just for me.
Fabian Hertwig
2025-02-17 14:49:41 +0000 UTCCan we get here reminder about the content on public chanel? No need to copy it here just a link to YT if something is published there.

2025-02-17 14:41:23 +0000 UTC1 month is a long time in AI. I will think like 1 week exclusivity for patrons maybe.
Arek Stryjski
2025-02-17 14:38:32 +0000 UTCThere should be value to us paid members but Philip should be able to share his amazing content with the rest of the world as well, as there's benefit to all of us since the more successful he gets, the more and better content he can produce for both paid and free subscribers.
Jonathan
2025-02-17 14:18:53 +0000 UTCMy reason for joining the patreon is to support you so everyone can keep enjoying your content / enabling you to do more content. Thus everything being released to the public would be preferable to me. Early access would be cool tho

2025-02-17 13:25:17 +0000 UTCAgree - don’t need recap on AI drama or stories. But enjoy the technical and conceptual analysis. That’s for me the value! But others might have a different view.

2025-02-17 12:57:24 +0000 UTClol pollz are for noobz option. I was tempted
Antoine Ferrere
2025-02-17 12:56:33 +0000 UTCI vote to release later as it will be an extra source of revenue and AI information moves so quickly some parts will become obsolete over time. And finally, anything not released gets released over time one way or another, might as well have it generate revenues from Ads.
Tiky
2025-02-17 12:55:14 +0000 UTCI am mainly craving for super in-depth technical analyses for patreons
Gilad
2025-02-17 12:53:52 +0000 UTCI voted for patrons only (+ability to share) because I think it will lead to more patrons and that leads to Philip being able to spend more time on content.

2025-02-17 12:48:05 +0000 UTCI think 100% release for PSA style content like that. Public awareness of these things is too limited, don't you agree?
Markov
2025-02-17 12:35:07 +0000 UTCI'm here to support. I get the most support bang for my support buck when content gets shared to the maximum number of people. Release it on YouTube ASAP. 🤠

2025-02-17 12:34:53 +0000 UTCSpeaking of noob questions, how do I access the channel/patreon discord? I see it referenced but have found no link.

2025-02-17 12:20:54 +0000 UTCdon't mind either way, just came to say that the previous minidoc was absolute fire and I can't wait for the deepseek one

2025-02-17 12:19:49 +0000 UTCEarly access is nice to have but agree all should get access as your content needs to get wide access and support

2025-02-17 12:18:47 +0000 UTC1 month before for patrons

2025-02-17 12:12:20 +0000 UTCI think most people, once they cross the threshold of paying for a Patreon like this, quickly develop a "supportive" mentality that justifies why they keep paying. That does not mean there doesn't need to be a carrot in the form of exclusive content, but if you produce something exceptional I would assume most people here would prefer it benefits you as much as possible, ie. by putting it on the main channel.
Sebastian
2025-02-17 12:12:20 +0000 UTCI think this is so good, it would serve you well to release it openly. Giving patrons early access with a download link to share is a nice touch

2025-02-17 12:08:50 +0000 UTCRelease the Kraken.
