2023-10-26 18:18:46 +0000 UTCThanks, Phillip. This brings to mind: I wonder if musically capable AI can answer a *Big Question*. I've argued for years that music has largely exhausted its fruitful design space. Not all the notes, mind you, but all the combinations of notes that sound good to human ears. To illustrate, let’s just limit ourselves to the piano, with its 88 keys, and one genre, boogie-woogie. I love boogie-woogie, in part because I’m attracted to music with an evident mathematical structure, and in part because the rhythm is so damn compelling. But is it conceivable that anything really fresh and compelling will be composed (or improvised) in that genre? For that matter, will a new genre of music arise that will outshine boogie-woogie or, say, symphonic greats? To me, rap is evidence of a musical dead-end, so I vote no, but I’d be fascinated to learn if AI can make a credible assessment. Any thoughts? While you contemplate, here's a nice instance of boogie-woogie. https://youtu.be/OzSypP3jki8?si=1WOnfTknwfM8ph7L Cheers,

2023-10-23 15:40:31 +0000 UTCYear-after-year evolving? At that palsied rate I probably wouldn't need your enlightened commentary. Nothing critical here, just saying...
