Final demo for mesh hair
Added 2021-02-08 15:52:25 +0000 UTC
I've got an effect that I think will work using basic blender tools. Here's the example hair dropped on my Anya model's head. This will be shown in the first 60 seconds on tutorial #4 which I have started recording!
Quick additional questions : what are you using for the eye texture and the lips texture ? they are procedural ? are you planning to cover them (and the clothes) in the up-coming tutorials?

This will be.. well it's not "low poly" but for detailed hair it's very low. This image here had 4k faces, undecimated. Might be able to take a little more out of it. I can give you the demo file and you can check it out. You can even use it if you want.

Hey I really, really like this. How animatable would the hair be? I am planning to use this as a character in a game, if the results are good enough!

Yeah, it's actually really good. Weights aren't perfect but it even finds fingers better than autorig pro. Not bad for a web app

Can't wait for part 4 as well ! About the riggify, I am just playing with Mixamo (https://www.mixamo.com/) to animate the character of the tutorial and it works quite well ! It is not of course the best and clean solution but at least a quick and convenient solution for a few tests !

I really do not want to do a riggify tut but will probably do so anyway. Autorig pro makes things so much easier!

Thanks Thomas. I'll be doing a hair tools tut later. It will extend the time it takes me to finish this series but I think it will be good.

I know it is a lot but I am pretty sure there will be also some interest for some elements about the paid version of the methods (hair, autorig pro, ...) in your videos with some highlights of the benefits versus the free one. Most of the people prefer the free way because even if, sometimes they can afford it, they are not in position to measure the added value. And you could get some sponsoring of those paid tools ?
Anyhow, big fan of your tutorials, I am learning a lot ! Can't wait for the new ones about hair, animation and texture !

I can do a basic lighting tutorial too.

I want to teach autorig pro. It makes life so easy! But I'm guessing people will want to learn a free method so I'll have to teach riggify. I really didn't like it either, but I only went through it once. Way too much work.

Tomcat, will you be covering lighting and rigging in this series. I've watched a ton of rigify tutorials and I still can't get a characteristic to make a proper fist
