Throwing it out there, “Brotherhood of the Wolf” fucking awesome

It’s Just kid stuff and ive god to have relief

Stanger’s Post Toasties story has me dying. I love the fixation.

Wadi

When Gabrus nonchalantly drops his exit line, "Oh sh!t- I left my berimbau at Stanger's parents' house like 15 years ago. I got to go and grab it." 👌

Bishop

I definitely took more to the Angola / malandragem side of things but I have barely been buff and I’ve never had locks. I was mostly in Chicago and kept my shirt on 🤣

Cromsicle

I left for a year and just came back. I'm gonna make a coin to commemorative my financial success and also Ranzizi lying. #Tyranizizi-asaurus

The Coin Guy

guessing Gabrus got in trouble for not showing his work on math tests. i failed math in elementary school for that shit. even after showing my teacher i could do it in my head. also, Dacascos is the best part of "Brotherhood Of The Wolf". he fucking rules. great episode, later.

Thicc Nolte

The brief conversation about Jerry Seinfeld's cultural importance reminded me: I used to work for a company that had offices all over the world. In the Beijing office, most of the sales folks chose their own "western name" for their international colleagues to use. One guy chose Jerry for his name, and another guy just went for it and chose Seinfeld for his first name. They both had perfect English and I worked with them for 5+ years, and neither of them ever made a joke or even said anything funny. They certainly never said "what's the deal with ___?!" which seems like a missed opportunity.

Emily P

I think about Big John's voice explaining the burger king kids club, "Wheels....he wuz inna wheel chair".

evan

Hahaha! I had something similar happen in my high school where a flamenco guitar player and dancer performed, but it was during some anti drug week at school, so the guitar player had to shoehorn in a message about not doing drugs during the performances.

evan

They really put Dacascos's name through the ringer on this one. There were at least 3 or 4 different pronunciations. Although Mark Dukakis was my favorite.

evan

Axé Cromsicle! Axé Chuck Norris joke used in Expendables 3? (i didn't realize a capoeira song predated that joke) Did you get to embody the regional stereotype of being a buff dude flipping around shirtless and the Angola stereotype of having dreadlocks and playing low to the ground?

evan

Christopher Walken does a dance in pretty much everything he's in. Recently watched King of New York and Communion for the first time. Pretty funny to see Walken dancing around with weirdo aliens that abducted him.

Darryl Bowen

For story writing in my creative writing class in 11th grade our teacher wanted us to write something from a different perspective so as an example showed us the scene from A Time to Kill (1996) where a little girl is gang raped and the scene is shot through her eyes..... I wrote about a concernd parent who stops by to check in on her kid to see a teacher showing her kid a rape scene and freaks out. The teacher pulled me aside late and apologized for showing it and wouldn't do that again. She probably should of apologized to everyone because WTF

Darryl Bowen

(Listener voice) Actually, Double Dragon was THE arcade game in the mid 1980s. Before SF 2 and MK, that was the game you wanted to play. The NES game followed ans was pretty different and a lot worse.

Thatguy

Hell yeah

Will See

When the Christopher Walken impression goes quiet and whispery it’s SO good I was crying laughing 😂

K-Dot

I was on the last rep of a bench set when Gabrus said “a hand written letter from Air Force Amy” and I laughed so hard I almost buried myself.

Dan Mayhugh

100% correct.

James Adams

Maybe we've got a lesson here

Korben's Mom

Did this dipshit delete his account or what

Korben's Mom

Oh boy Florida

BronsonAcapuko

Follow-up: has anyone ever sought out your company

Korben's Mom

holy shit its finally happening...

Max Power

What is the point you're trying to make here

Korben's Mom

It's not the right vibe, Jeff!

Korben's Mom

This was my favorite movie when I was a kid. Saw it in the theater and had the soundtrack. I may or may not have done an untrained Capoeira performance for a family friend at an age I’m not proud of. Also, my ninth grade math teacher called me an idiot once and my mom made a stink about it. I wasn’t removed from the class and it was definitely weird from then on. Later, while working at an AMC, I caught her and another math teacher having an affair.

Preston

I'm ready for Val Verde.

Brash Tracks

Don Knott Steiner

Stanger fixing an antenna shirtless imaging himself beating up Eddy Gordo.

Don Knott Steiner

One sharp knife can feed you clothe you and make you a Shadow Wolf

Oldmancoyoteface

I studied abroad in São Paulo where my group took a 1 hour beginner capoeira class. Everyone was terrible, but what stuck with me was that the only black instructor was called “shoh-coh-lah-chee”, which I only realized later is Portuguese for “chocolate”

DC

When will Abz do QT? There’s 3 of them pre 1999. You’d think they would have done one by now.

Jeff

Yes he was. He also made Brotherhood of the Wolf with the same director.

Wesley Dolan

Last comment on this episode, but everyone needs to watch Band of the Hand. Similar movie to this where a veteran/martial artist trains a group of at risk youth and they fight Cuban gangsters. Mix of OTS, 21 Jump Street, and Miami Vice.

Brash Tracks

Mark was the Chairman on Iron Chef for a long time, right? Probably made more money biting a pepper than he made on Only The Strong.

Brash Tracks

Another classic filmed on rolls of beautiful plastic ;)

away

Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter has some wild photos on his IMDB page including a portrait of himself as a centaur.

Douglas “Scoop” Reinhardt

“I can’t wait to ‘Roll’ with SUNY Oswego” got an IRL cackle out of me, thank you Ben😂🙏🏻

Liz Arcury

The bad guy in this must have inspired the Capoeira instructor in Bob’s Burgers.

Gordo

I was edging so hard to Stanger's perfect episode and then "anoring" happened, what a shame. Also I think Mark Dacascos wasn't bigger because he existed at the same time as Brandon Lee

From Parts Unknown

There's a local pool player in my dive bar that we call latinx Steven Segal. It's upsetting how much they look alike. Luckily, he's really cool and doesn't try to throw anyone.

Brian Frain

It has to be against the rules to change songs in the middle of a capoeria fight right? I mean c'mon, there are rules to this thing

wisebl00d

I occasionally write out bug reports at work, and if people don’t know the time frame the bug started I’ll put in “since who knows” for my own amusement- it’s gotten a few laughs from non janitors.

AFistfulofGwildors

banger

Cromsicle

hmpf!

Cromsicle

Unless my ear have been taken by some spell . Did I hear Shadow Wolves Studio? Ci come?

John McClane

Ahh man that is really interesting. Not a vet but I have heard the land of bad I’m sure you are right. Thanks for that

Oldmancoyoteface

I want to see Only the Dead Zone movie! Ben doing the Walken whisper was so fucking funny. Great episode fellas!

Oldmancoyoteface

Argos fuck yourself

bloodflart

Cliff Booth vs Bruce Lee

bloodflart

Speedball Mike Bailey seems like he belongs in these movies

bloodflart

I was REALLY looking forward to a big fight at the end where someone stops the music, and our hero(es) need to "find the rhythm of their heart". Or something like that. Kinda sucks they didn't overcome that obstacle i just thought of.

David McElroy

It’s hilarious to me that this movie came out the year I graduated from high school. I’ve never heard of this movie until today. This movie is terrible but fun - and a strange and funny take on what high school was supposed to be like in the early 90’s.

Nathan Rodriguez

My liver has the damage to prove it. The Val Verde VA has my scans on file.

Adam Ross

I saw people practicing with weapons once and it looked suddenly very different.

Adam Lewis

Maybe it's borrowed valor.

Adam Lewis

I would like to know what his father, poet laureate Cecil Day Lewis, called him (and his sister Tamsin). I would bet on "Daniel" but "Danny" isn't impossible.

Adam Lewis

Ia passando num caminho, (2x) Uma cobra me mordeu Meu veneno era mais forte Essa cobra que morreu I was walking down the street A cobra came and bit me But my venom was stronger AND IT WAS THE COBRA THAT DIED that's dope

Cromsicle

No wayyyy! Haven't heard the episode but it's like I've been teleported back to the 90s. I'm a martial artist and as a kid/teen before the internet I was always looking for the most obscure stuff. Got obsessed with the idea of capoeira and eventually got into playing both Regional and Angola. I'm not doing any flares now, but I still sing capoeira songs in the shower, shoutout Eddy Gordo.

Cromsicle

I went to Madrid 11 years ago and took this video of Capoeira performers there: https://youtu.be/Iel3a7NpuIw?si=kKiFU2aQXMe4__-l

Paul

Also anyone else find themselves randomly doin Master Yoda grunts?

RutgerHauerPowerHour

Mentally irregular and Bad Humor are 100% in my brain soundboard.

David McElroy

Liam Neeson dragging his penis along the floor and grabbing peanuts like an elephant trunk sent me into a laughing fit. Thank you

Alec Ogg

Hello there Action Boyz. Veteran here. So actually... Ok stop reading it in that voice! I'm just a normal dude. Let's get political and talk about books. Anyway, Land of bad refers to a hostile area. So the land of ok is probably a play on words meaning somewhere not as bad. Like Miami.

Brash Tracks

I think Stanger can take a capoeira guy in a back alley brawl. I’d put down some chips on that prediction.

Don Knott Steiner

I find it really takes the piss outta daniel day Lewis if you call him Danny Lewis

Salmon

Very impressed by Stanger’s 90s R&B knowledge

Drew

Yup. Drive (1997) is bonkers fun

The Buffmaster

I say “BY YOUR COMMAND. NNNNNNNNNNSTANGERBOT 2021” before dinner prayers.

Salmon

People don't talk enough about bad teachers. Especially from the younger years. I swear my fifth grade teacher should be in prison for some of the bullying she did. Maybe I'll start a podcast about it...

Megan

“For momma” is my go to

RutgerHauerPowerHour

🤣🤣🤣

RutgerHauerPowerHour

Wasn’t he also in the “Crying Freeman” live action movie based on the anime? Those 90s live action anime based movies were wild. The Guyver and Fist of the North Star were a couple that came to mind.

RutgerHauerPowerHour

Louis Stevens was the name of Shia LaBeouf’s character on Disney Channel’s Even Stevens (2 out of 10 found this interesting)

Jenn

Argos won the 2024 Grey Cup the day this episode dropped. Rogers nailing it :)

Identical Quinns

Drive is a fun 90's straight to video action movie starring Mark Dacascos. It has great Hong Kong style action and an excellent supporting turn from the late Brittany Murphy.

Wesley Dolan

Prove your service record or it's stolen valor for you, bud!

David McElroy

I always wanted a brother growing up so this pod fills a weird void of watching these movies but never having discussion about how fucking crazy they are

bloodflart

I've never even heard of this movie

bloodflart

The colonel tells Louis “you’re going back to the land of the Big PX” (PX = Post Exchange = military Wal-Mart). Basically he’s being pulled out of the field and sent back to the rear.

Adam Ross

I wonder what the ruling would be for New York Ninja. It's a new production with found footage from the 90's I think.

Daniel the spaniel

Double Dragon had many sequel games. Too many. Double Dragon V was released the year after this movie.

Erik Kang

I watched a GREAT "bad kids in school" production recently. "Rookies," a Japanese show available on Netflix (originally produced in 2008)...about an ultra-violent gang of baseball players who terrorize their school until an insanely positive karate master/gym teacher gets to the school and gets them to change their ways and reform the baseball team. The first episode is fucking nuts...the beatings in the school are so violent and the teacher (who can only be described as a psychotic version of Ted Lasso) literally gets curbed stomped by the end of episode 1. 10/10...total recommend, only 11 episodes and concludes with a movie. By the end of the show, they end up redeeming the worst characters, extremely satisfying, especially for baseball fans. Was a huge hit in Japan too.

Willie Simpson

Did anyone else’s school have a capoeira demonstration growing up? I can’t remember the grade, but we went as a class to the gymnasium and watched a group of people demonstrating capoeira. While the head of the (team/dojo) talked about discipline and self control and whatnot to make it seem worthy of school time. But really they might as well as been a yo-yo team doing tricks. I think it was just to give the teachers a minute to breath

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

Stop grim reaper all these actors… my god!

Thomas

I say “…since who knows” with regularity. Mostly to myself. I also say “you think you’re a tough guy? Put the gun down tough guy.”

Julian Neuweiler

I use to break dance in high school and capoeira was basically "break dance fighting" and we use to incorporate some of the moves. It's ridiculously fun to do. Oh and of course Eddie Gordo was my main in Tekken

Brix

This has nothing to do with anything but does anyone else have Action Boyzisms they can't help but use in real life? Often to people who don't know or listen to the Boyz is how it goes with me. Anyways, these have found their way into my head "Bad humor I know" "Mentally irregular" "Do you love me? Do you trust me?" "...since, who knows?" "And I'm (blank) buff" Also I can't hear "too old" without repeating "too old!" and if a pig is mentioned I have to say "your pig will hate you"

Brix

Crying Freeman (1995) is a fantastic ABZ action movie. Starring Mark DaBlaDasCås..

The Buffmaster

"Capoeira was invented in the early 16th century by African slaves in Brazil. The dance moves were incorporated to disguise the fact that they were learning to fight. Helpful: 35" The only thing I ever heard about capoeira when it first started trending.

Eugenio Triana

Paranaue! Paranaue! Parana!
