The Silver Dollar was an incredible venue up until it closed about a decade ago. Once when I played there I got deadly sick from drinking the water.

Thank you guys for this movie. I’d never heard of it & enjoyed it so much!

Ben Rodgers reporting on a hot girl having a crush on him and feeling entitled alert

I mentioned this in the Discord, but I got a copy of the December '86 Playboy because it had a horror movie-themed spread featuring Barbara Crampton. It had an interview with Koko the Gorilla and a photo shoot titled "The Women of 7-Eleven"

This movie was an amazing surprise! I worked in the Eaton Centre for years, and my first apartment was just around the corner from both Cullen's and Julie's homes. All these years later, and so many locations were still instantly recognizable to me. I constantly wanted to jump in to share pointless Toronto trivia, but my favourite moment was when the Boyz mentioned a "rooftop" restaurant with a yacht theme. That was Captain John's, a seafood restaurant that was on an actual ship docked on Toronto's waterfront. The restaurant was open until 2012, but the ship was still rotting away there years after it closed. Thanks for introducing the movie to me! It was great, and I recommended it to Toronto friends and family.

what is action boyz i asked chatgpt answer: "Action Boyz" is a podcast hosted by comedians Ben Rodgers, Ryan Stanger, and Jon Gabrus. The hosts discuss action movies, often delving into the details of specific films in a humorous and entertaining way. It's a podcast where the hosts share their love for action movies and provide comedic commentary on the genre.

Jamin

Hearing Gabrus talk about CFNM only confirms what I've known for a long time: That he's exactly the same kind of freak that I am. Keep an eye on your DM's, Gabrus. I'm going to send you exactly what you never knew you needed. Just kidding.

Doppelgänger double feature: Silent Partner and The Killer. Always thought Fassbender looks like a young Plummet

One of my first jobs when I moved to LA was being a bank teller. The job fucking sucked because it would be either incredibly depressing, where people had no money and bank bureaucracy/rules would mean we'd hold a deposit for an extra day or longer meaning they'd have no access to money they desperately need. Or you'd have incredibly rich pricks come in and be furious if you didn't read their mind for everything they wanted. Notably I worked at Wells Fargo during the run of what we now know was the era where they opened tens of thousands of fraudulent accounts. There was insane pressure on tellers to have customers open new savings accounts or checking accounts even when they didn't want to or need to. We'd have managers on our ass telling us to call our friends and family to open accounts because we'd have to hit specific numbers per quarter. It was insane and made no sense.

I’m serious when I say it’s a lot of girls’ first crush!!

Frosty peaches

Amazing, my wife has noted C Plum was her first crush, from sound of music.

David McElroy

Really conflicted about whether to do Stanger on a hanger this year, in part because of the whole surveillance culture thing, but also because I don't think my kid needs to be grilled with questions like whether he likes the little chuck wagon from old Purina commercials every time he opens the closet

Kyle Daly

@Gabrus the calling with a random name and now wanting to talk to you now that they have you on the phone is totally the new thing. Got a few calls looking for John, Joanne, and other names and when I said "you have the wrong number" they say "well can I talk to you?" First time I said "no. You're looking for Joanne. Fuck off". Couple other times asked to be taken off their call list and still doing it do just hanging up. And it's all different numbers so not like I can just block one number. It's crazy

Darryl Bowen

I know I saw this as a kid/early/early teens in the late 80s/early 90s but I don't remember there being nudity in it. Either I saw parts here and there or it was on TV like USA network or something

The 2nd key the bank employee uses to open the SDB is called the Guard Key. It shouldn't be left in the lock if the banker leaves, but this is often overlooked on screen and in reality. Items in your SDB are not insured by the bank, as they don't know the contents; talk to your homeowner's/renter's insurance carrier about the possibility of insuring said items. SDBs are not fireproof or waterproof, and on demand access to your box is never guaranteed. If your bank sustains structural damage from a hurricane or other disaster, you may not be permitted in the building when you potentially need those items most. Most banks don't allow the storage of weapons, large cash amounts, or items that are illegal to possess; but again, they don't know or ask. In the event of an abandoned box, a contractor is hired to drill and re-key the box, and the contents are immediately inventoried under dual control by 2 bank employees. Policies and laws governing SDBs may vary by bank and by your state of residence. I scrub filthy toilets at a bank.

I’m trying to hold back from making a lot of comments on this movie… A) Christopher Plummer is a stone cold fox in the Sound of Music and the first crush for a lot of girls I know (me included). He’s so stern, blowing that whistle and making everyone march around 🥵 B) I loved seeing the old Canadian money and the single dollar bills instead of loonies.

Frosty peaches

Finally now I know riño is always thinking about cock blocking instinctually! 🥹

Thomas

There’s a funny cock blocking story in Mark Lanegan’s autobiography(great audiobook btw) where when he was the most fucked up/near death on drugs there were rumors going around about him and apparently the drummer from Presidents Of The United States told a girl Lanegan had Aids

Jon Smith

Ignition the remix 2 is incredible. Thank you stang

CTSteeze

There's an angry dad in it.

Adam Lewis

I'd buy myself a new ass.

The director Daryl Duke’s other good movie, ‘Payday’, has a great script by Don Carpenter, whose crime novel ‘Hard Rain Falling’ is also great.

Frank Kimball

Stanger with the non-chalant Rainer Maria Rilke reference! He’s just got that shit holstered for a rainy day I guess. Love it when abz hits those high notes.

Pod Ween Satan

I saw this chick at a deli and told her she had a cool tat, then didn't hit on her cause I was like 'she is probably too young.' Matched on dating app a few months later and she's 2 years older than me!

bloodflart

You know who else drank Canadian Club? Wade Whitehouse and his dad Glen in Affliction. Is Affliction an Action Boyz movie?

David Bauer

Finally buy that watch I’ve had my eye on.

David Bauer

I fell off of listening for a while and this is the first episode I came back to, and it is quintessential action boys that I knew the Ben 4th grade video story already

Dean Smiros

Man, the Trumpet of the Swan was quite a book. The part I remember most is when the swan’s human friend …CUTS THE WEBBING OF HIS FUCKIN FOOT so that the swan can press down on the valves of his trumpet more easily. What a pal.

Steakmoss

Hell yeah

Will See

Yea I bet they’re wearing them at Eyes Wide Shut parties too

Big Stepper

Idk I bet there's some specific stuff that rich people use, you seen those UV light masks?

bloodflart

It's fish for me.

bloodflart

Please do the Playboys, it'll really help me work some stuff out.

FiddlersGreenDay

Shampoo/regular soap is just as effective as body wash for washing your body. ‘Body Wash’ is just made up branding for companies to sell more products.

Big Stepper

I'd go wild

Growing up my stepmom was a local newscaster (and the most recognized person in our province). As a kid I'd hang out in the news room and when she'd do the interstitials between programs ("Coming up at 11..." etc.) and I'd walk around in the background holding a piece of paper and try to look like I worked there just so I could be on camera. (I don't think anyone believed that an 11 year old was a journalist but no one stopped me either) Even though it was kind of "normalized" for me, it was still exciting as hell to be on TV haha

Frosty peaches

What would you guys do with the money?

bloodflart

If the Boyz do a Toronto show the Silver Dollar is available, in its reincarnated form https://nowtoronto.com/music/a-first-look-inside-the-rebuilt-silver-dollar-room/

Canadian Day Player

The Silver Dollar and the attached hotel were captured very accurately in the film https://www.blogto.com/music/2014/06/a_brief_history_of_the_silver_dollar_room/

Canadian Day Player

Good thing I have smoothbrain I don't remember that story

bloodflart

I kept a safe deposit box for a while, and visited another with a friend a couple of times, and both were depressingly drab settings, grubby linoleum and grey metal box doors with rust around the number plates. The movies lied to me.

Adam Lewis

Almost had me with that mirror in the bathroom bit Gabrus.

FiddlersGreenDay

I'm going to kick that son-of-a-bitch Buffalo's ass so 'ard that the next Buffalo wanna-be is gonna feel it.

Roscoe 112

Man that mall was packed! Takes me back

Re: Pulp Fiction. I’ve been listening to director commentaries on Spotify thanks to that recommendation and just heard the one for Reservoir Dogs. I didn’t realize that Tarantino wrote Mr. Pink for himself, but the first thing that occurred to me is that he really wanted to be on screen saying the N-word, as that would have been him that time if they didn’t give the role to Buscemi instead.

The Silent Partner, also known as the golden showers episode

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

i want some of that uranium glass

The buried lede in that Mrs. Jones story is that the librarian was taking that chance to admit her crush on Rodgers. I bet he could have made a library video and closed that deal.
