News 9/3/2019

So I actually have a few things to talk about here, but let me start with something that affects everyone: monetization.

I've had this patreon going on for Friends of Mine for about a year and a half now and I've been trying to find more benefits for patrons and new ways to fully involve myself in this whole thing as a career and as such, it takes more and more of my time and energy. This becomes increasingly more difficult with the fact that I also have a full time job to worry about, so most of my time is spent at work, then coming home to work on Friends of Mine or some other project, then going to sleep. What I'm getting at is that I want to push back on how much time I spend at work and focus more on this stuff, however I still need to be able to support myself and as such, I am looking at changes to pricing or incentives for patreon tiers. I do want everyone to know that nothing is set in stone, so please do not panic and keep in mind that I'd rather keep things as they are than cause issues or complications. As such, I have been contemplating increasing the Supporter tier cost by $1, which would be a pretty big jump. Now, I know this isn't something people like to hear, so I'd like to reiterate that nothing is certain and I'd rather things stay as they are then cause issues or complications.

I just wanted to bring it up and let everyone know what I was thinking, so please feel free to comment and let me know your thoughts and everything, seriously.

Anyway, other things that are happening already: Discord server has been added for those of you who may not have noticed. I will try to be active in conversations and such there, just please keep in mind my very busy schedule. People who are no longer patrons will also be removed from it a few days after payment processing at the beginning of the month.

I am also working on another game (not Orbiversum), that is similar to Friends of Mine in that it's sort of an open relationship type game, however it uses a modern-fantasy setting, uses hand made art rather than images and clips, and is being made in Visual Novel Maker rather than Twine. It will also focus more on the player interacting with the world and all the different characters rather than large stories with specific characters. I hope to start showing off some stuff for Investors rather soon.

I've also been thinking about making a Director's Cut version of Friends of Mine (and eventually the new game) for Player tier patrons or something like that, but that's still just a thought right now.

ANYWAY, Friends of Mine 0.7c Final part is up next with some Alex story stuff and bug fixes, then we'll have the rest of the month for plenty of side content and I'm working vigilantly on getting a hosted version of the game up, but it is not easy (or cheap, weirdly enough), but I am working on it, don't worry!

I hope you all have a good rest of your week and I'll speak to you soon!

Sorry about the wait for the new update everyone, I've been working on trying to get a web-hosted version up. I'll put an update out tomorrow as well as a temporary set up for the web link.

You seem to have a better work ethic than most creators, I'm sure plenty of people noticed that and will act accordingly.

I really appreciate all the thoughts and understanding of the situation!

I second the others. This is one of the only patreons that gives new updates for less than 5 dollars. Really can up the amount by 1 or 2 dollars and it should be fine.

I also think increasing the price is perfectly reasonable. There will be those who complain about it and say it's a hardship however, I am sure coming up with $2 within a 30 day period is doable. Regardless, you also have to consider your own needs. With this and the other projects you were talking about, one of the most valuable resources is time...specifically your time. You cannot invest more time if it's not affordable, therefore if you have to raise Patreon prices in order to back off on your day job then that's really what you have to do.

Ryan Fox

I think your plan is reasonable since most Patreons these days only give out the new version of the game for the $5 tier
