Just So You Know (More Tech News)

Following what happened with the California ruling late April/beginning of May 2025 (detailed in full here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/important-update-128001823 ) the big fruit-tech-firm involved is pushing back majorly in Europe, mentioned here: https://9to5mac.com/2025/07/07/apple-formally-appeals-e500-million-dma-fine-in-the-eu/

The European Union has fined the company €500 million (roughly $586 million US) and demands it lowers its fees for a fairer playing field.  You can read the EU’s official statement on the matter here: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_25_1085

I don’t know what this means for me in the UK, given we left the EU back in 2016… but I’ll keep you updated accordingly.  As it is, November 2025 means the end for me and fruit-based phone-users accessing this platform via the 👁️OS unless I jump to the anniversary-date subscription model used by podcast services and Netflix and things…

And yeah… also, on a tangentially related note of technological stuff possibly … interfereing with how things are done presently? 

So, apparently, they’re making this Autopilot thing* an automatically enabled feature for certain content creators on this platform and you have to manually switch it off, as indicated here: www.patreon.com/posts/autopilot-is-to-132367286

Admittedly, I… don’t know what this Autopilot thing is, or how it’s supposed to be “beneficial”… I’m completely at sea here.  I think it’s supposed to be some sort of social media related marketing tool for the kinds of people who do that podcast stuff and sell physical products/“merch”, maybe??  I really don’t know. 

Anyway, I’m ineligible so you’re not going to be seeing any of that Autopilot stuff coming from me.  But it’s something you ought to be aware of, in case you’re suddenly getting messages from Content Creators who may not have intentionally initiated proceedings themselves. Note, this one is a global one, not just the US or Europe specficially. To my knowledge. 

And… that’s it I guess?  I should’ve done this last week so I apologise for the lateness, it’s been a busy time lately.
