I’m Back!

Hello, hola, hi!  How are you?  Did you miss me whilst I was away?

It has certainly been a month… but you’re not here for a play-by-play of my holiday, you’re here for the following: 

Nothing fantazimo about it (no, I’ve not played the game nor do I have any real interest in it; I just thought the user interface and menus were cool), just doing what I owe everyone.  I’m aiming low so I can achieve things in a shorter time-frame than normal.

That means, yes, the first week of November, you will be charged for this month’s work; Patreon charges in arrears, remember?  That said, it’s most excellent that no one fell through the cracks this time.  Hurrah. ‘But what about the archives?’ you may be asking.  Well:

As I highlighted mid-August, in my Sign of the Times journal, November 2024 will see this become my final year on this platform.  Thanks to a certain phone/tech company, (which I go into detail about in my Important Information: Billing Will Change journal), this platform will end the current billing method come November 2025 and will force all Content Creators onto the anniversary-style billing*.   I almost got caught out the other day because they already ticked the option in my settings to change over to subscription style billing and I had to manually change it back to decline, as evidenced by my phone screen shot last week:

Anyway, this is totally incompatible with my method of working and time-sensitive rewards, and I don’t want to spend all my time doing admin when I should be working.  So I will be migrating elsewhere once I have things set up properly.  I’ll let you know once things are in order, so please don’t ask about it just yet, I only just got back after all.

Beyond that, I’ve not heard anything going on with this platform.  The very tail end of last month, they posted the updated policy guidance, based on the feedback received in July’s livestream – you can read about it in my write-up or watch the livestream yourself here: https://youtu.be/1hZtnO_Zi9o.  I suspect that there will be another one coming up before Christmas, so I will keep you posted on further developments to come.

Beyond that, blah blah blah conventional North American stuff, blah blah blah people selling stuff and networking… oh, and the platform wants to submit its IPO (Initial Public Offering, which translates to ‘we need new shareholders to fund us now our original shareholders want to take their investment money and accrued profits and run’) by late 2025.  I guess the devaluation of the last three years really hit home (from $4 billion in 2021, to just over $1.4 billion).  Ouch.

 * (meaning you’re charged on the day you sign up and will continue to do so on that same date, rather than the first week of the new month.  So if you signed up here on 9th October, you’ll be charged again 9th November, geddit?)
