Update: Arcade Video & Disconnecting Discord

Hey everyone.

Just two major updates right now.

First, the new video I'm making will be partially about the history of arcades. There's already a lot of videos detailing the entire history of the space, including one that's 10 hours long. So I'm not going to make that the focus of the video. Instead, I want to talk about gaming's history of friendship and isolation. About how it started as this rather communal experience, with arcades and local co-op, and how it evolved into something more lonely with the introduction of online.

I'm not exactly sure what the thesis of the video is yet, and I'm gonna be taking it slow after this last 90 minute behemoth, so don't expect anything soon. But I am working on it, so if you have any thoughts leave them down below.

Second, I think I'm going to remove Discord benefits from the Patreon. I haven't ever really given any special perks to Patreon members besides a role that doesn't really do anything, and the Patreon bot automatically adds and re-adds everyone to the server, even if they don't want to join. So I think I'm going to just have the server be it's own thing. You'll still be able to join, of course. Really the only thing that will change is patrons will no longer have special roles, and you won't be automatically added to the server when you become a patron.

That's pretty much everything that's going on with the channel and the community, so... yeah.
