Added 2024-11-14 17:00:04 +0000 UTCIt's never fun showing our characters in pain, but I did enjoy slightly fancy-ing up Raziel's armor as the flashbacks go further back. Top left of the flashbacks is Raziel's most recent death, which is why his armor now has the gold diamond patch right in the middle. I'm real happy about this page and I hope my fully read novel folks appreciate the last panel, felt pretty artsy as hell about it :D
Canonically, heaven just makes angels like... deal with it themselves, but each death is uh... very painful and very remembered and Raziel might have a scootch of trauma.

Yeah, writing death and putting characters you care about through the wringer can be hard. Emotionally. I like to think of myself as a method writer. But that means every time I edit and go through a death scene, I get all torn up all over again. I'm sure my wife notices because certain *difficult* scenes (I *REALLY* torture my poor characters) leave me zombified and depressed for a while. i hope it's not the same for you! ADHD is bad enough. >.<

The pain they experience with death (and often violently so) is meant to deter them from making the same mistake again, but with the same person knowing how each death feels and knowing that agony, it just kinda screws them over as they go along instead. They're "higher" beings, that are supposed to be above said things, but they're still human souls.

It's like that Arnold Schwarzenegger movie with the clones, every time they die, they are reborn as clones. After a while death itself becomes meaningless and they become more upset with the damage to their clothes than... you know... dying over and over. Not so for Raziel, it seems. Remembering is a good path to PTSD as his mind is still essentially human.
