MONTHLY REACTION EXCLUSIVE - NIMONA

i think small minded questions are those that a) seem like they're supposed to have one clear answer and b) the asker already thinks they know what it is or should be

I didn't realise that was Riz!

Suze

It was actually my kids who watched this first and told me to watch it. I think the message transcends all ages and experiences, and it's so beautifully told that it's hard not to take something away from it.

Suze

I love getting to know the community on here xx

We all deserve some Love and Happiness, it's one small life, 💗

I watch all the animes with my 22 year old x

Wonderful way to begin the Easter holidays with a mind uplift on good representation and embracing our varied unique individual wonderful differences which enrich the colours of the world, Thank you, now go and celebrate 🎈 yourselves everyone 💓

Absolutely loved this movie (and reaction, of course)! I hadn't seen it yet, and am so glad I watched. I know my 8-year-old twin girls have seen it, so I'll be able to rewatch with them and open conversations. Thanks for this! :D

Valerie Duval

It's lovely to see the connections, joy, love and laughter ❤️

Gina Lipkin

I love that you can equate Goldenloin and Balthazar to Wilhelm and Simon from Young Royals. Just as you're starting to hear that fans of YR are saying they hate Simon this season, keep in mind the unconscious bias against a POC, immigrant, commoner who the lily white Prince is in love with.

You should also check out the controversy involved in getting this movie made. It's had a very interesting journey. Also, the author of the graphic novel having told a personal story in Nimona- says so much about the freedom of expression.

I love too, that Bal is played by Riz Ahmed, British Muslim actor and activist for Muslim representation in film and television. The added layer of Bal being not just a commoner but a Muslim turned villain/terrorist as represented by the propaganda of the kingdom, is a brilliant addition. A gay Muslim character allying with a trans/non binary character because they're equally vilified by their kingdom gives the story so much weight. I love that it was nominated for an Oscar this year. You should check out the cast for Nimona on the Oscar red carpet from this past month - so much queer representation.

So adore this movie and have a wonderful copy of the graphic novel it's based on. I love how much love the medium of queer storytelling in comics and graphic novels is being made into movies and t.v. series like this and heartstopper.

I must admit I hadn't heard of this movie, and without this reaction, I probably wouldn't have even seen it. It hasn't come up on my Netflix feed or been presented to me through any other algorithm-picked piece of media, and I think that is half the problem with social media. Occasionally, you will be shown something different, left of field, an outlier, and if you don't have an open mind, you can miss out on so much joy. Thanks for this reaction! It has been a real eye-opener.

I still haven't seen the Labyrinth. Every year, my best friend watches it on her birthday, and I still haven't seen it. I have this thing about watching old movies and not being able to see them through the lens of the time they were made, unless I saw them back in the day. Weird sort of hang-up to have, I know.

Chris Mackenzie

Oh that had me bawling by the end I haven’t seen this one before!! Such a beautiful movie 💗

Hannah Howden

I love love love those movie!!! The end when he says, " I see you Nimona," kills me every time. 💔 my kids love it too. Also did you know it was based on a graphic novel?

Desiree M.

Josh can't stop thinking of custard, I can't stop thinking of the dog from Labyrinth ("Ambrosius, I think we've got them surrounded!") 😆

Jacqui Chesterton

Loved this movie, kudos to you wonderful boys for sharing ❤️🏳️‍🌈

Magical Adorabella

This was such a sweet movie! Thank You for this Special Gift Alex and Josh

Diane Furlong

Glad you enjoyed this movie. It is brilliant!

So happy you guys are reacting to this! I loved the movie the first time I saw it, and the three times I watched it again after that. This will be my fourth viewing and I can't wait to watch it with you guys!

This movie came out at the right time for me too. I watched it alone shortly after realizing that I’m a lesbian and was ending a long term relationship with a man. Although I’m not trans, the line from Nimona about feeling like they wouldn’t be living if they didn’t shape shift made me feel like the decision to be essentially blow up the life I had created was ultimately the right and brave decision. This movie will always mean so much to me.

Jenny Lukan

Love love love this movie, and your reaction is so good!!

Morgan Arguello

Nimona was Fantastic! Thank you so much for introducing me to this wonderful film. I laughed SO many times. "And now you're a boy." "I am today." I even cried when I thought she'd "Iron Giant-ed" me. Great treat.

Dawn Johnson

Haven't seen this one, but the positive comments makes me think I've missed out. Looking forward to share it with an expert (apparently) and a fellow novice.😊 And, as always, thank you! ❤️

Stian Kristoffersen

The timing of this is absolutely perfect! International Transgender Day of Visibility is on Sunday! This week is the Trans Rights Readathon and Nimona is based on a graphic novel by a transmasc and bigender cartoonist!

Jenny Lukan

My favorite movie of 2023!!! By the way, Alex the way you hyped this film up for Josh is exactly how I would've gone about it. It's definitely one of those films I want to hype up to show everyone how good it is.

Justin Kayser

Ooh boy, it’s my day off and I’m almost finished with my errands. I know what I’ll be watching this afternoon

Diane Furlong

Oh! I'm looking forward to this! Loved, loved this movie
