YOUNG ROYALS S3 E2 - UNCUT

Ok, we made it through ep 1 and now we get to... go camping! this must be good, right?!?

YOUNG ROYALS S3 E2 - UNCUT

Comments

I only just realised this, but this is actually the second shush! Wille shushes Simon at the very end of episode 1 season 1, when they have come outside together from the party and are trying to avoid August. Simon is teasing Wille by echoing August calling out his name and Wille shushes him and then has a moment of realisation as he holds Simon’s face and they look into each other’s eyes. There’s a similar moment in season 1 episode 5, when they’re waking up in bed together and Malin is at the door to tell Wille that breakfast is closing in 5 minutes, as Simon is pretending to call out, too. There are so many parallels and there’s so much subtle patterning in Young Royals. ❤️👑😄

Ruth May

The shush heard around the world!

Ivy Yap

I love that Alex's idea of a public proposal is Stratford Westfields 😂😂😂😂

Sarah Vallance (Accessible Yoga with Sarah)

Thank you for making the point about religion. Having grown up Catholic, attended religious schools, and witnessed religious hatred towards LGBTQIA+ people, I now find all symbols of Abrahamic religions a bit triggering, which makes me hate with a passion the fact that society privileges religion, which is literally a lifestyle choice, over sexuality and gender identity, which is part and parcel of one's identity they have no choice over.

Arthur

I kept watching your neighbors across the street haha

Nomi Saxton

You have to react to the behind the scenes from things show. I’m called young royals forever and it’s amazing!!!

Maria Truedsson

regarding the homeschooling: There's no home schooling in Sweden so that's not an option.

Maike Jaspers

You all are ready right? I love your reactions they are so real, but please be ready

Amanda Balser

About Simon and the importance of music to him, this is the second time he’s been shut down in that respect by the Royal Court. In season 2, his version of the school song was rejected in favour of the old, traditional version although no-one except Felice really acknowledged to him the reason behind it. Jan-Olaf avoided explaining honestly by skirting round it when Wille asked him why.

Ruth May

That was a great pun from Josh and Alex should just shh like Simon :p

The level of privilege-blindness rich people express is so frustrating. I feel bad for Wille because being royalty seems like a nightmare in many ways, but equating taking prince classes to working because your family needs the money to survive is not good. Wille has often had trouble recognizing his privilege throughout the series. It's just come to the forefront of the story now. And there could be jealousy between Stella and Fredrika without it being romantic on both of their ends. Stella obviously has romantic feelings for her best friend, but it's unclear at this point if they're shared by Fredrika. There's a thing in unhealthy female friendships that even if one person doesn't reciprocate feelings (it happens in completely platonic friendships too), the other girl won't want their friend to be with a romantic partner, even while suspecting (or fully knowing) that their friend harbors feelings for them that are not returned. It's the whole I-don't-want-you-but-I-still-don't-want-someone-else-to-take-you-away thing. Hillerska is an all-around bad school, even if you ignore the initiations, hierarchy stuff, racism, queerphobia, etc. The elitist grading policies alone should be cause for at least a huge overhaul. Remember in season 1 how Simon had to pay for a tutor because the rich kids were graded more leniently if the school knew they were paying for tutoring? It would suck for Simon and Wilhelm, but the school should close.

Finally got to watch this when not emotionally drained. Two short observations: love your angst Josh when the fight broke out between Wille and August in the LIBRARY! 😧 Mind those shelves of books, don’t worry about the repercussions of breaking their agreement not to cause any problems ! 😂 I remember a similar moment in season 2 in the LIBRARY when you got very upset about books not being correctly put back on the shelves! 😂😂😂 Interesting how Rosh and Ayub are shown as more tactful and polite than the boarders who are completely oblivious to the fact that Simon and his friends couldn’t possibly afford travel to New York and have to find summer jobs to earn money. Rosh and Ayub just bite their tongues and smile at their crass questions. In defence of Wille, he’s really trying here to bridge the gulf by talking about having to ‘work’ too and even calls it a course, not mentioning Prince School. But Simon reacts to him in the tent in a way that shows he’s tuned in to the negative whispers and the tone-deaf comments coming out of privileged kids who don’t even realise how offensive and blind they’re being and he’s already hurt from the homophobic online comments and being as he sees it, shut down from expressing himself through his music, the thing he really loves. It’s not surprising that he lashes out at Wille, but it’s not surprising that Wille is at a loss. He’s trying to establish common ground between two classes that don’t sit comfortably together and this whole scene is paced in such a way that it’s very awkward and uncomfortable viewing. Young Royals is REALLY good at this, about 5 minutes of happiness followed by complete emotional chaos and misery. 😫

Ruth May

In regards to your question about the crown prince having access to police and such, he does. Though he doesn't need it. They don't show them on camera as much but he still has his two bodyguards that are near him at all times. If he needed anything, they could provide it to him.

Gage Eakins

That should be Farima I think, not Fatima! Something happened on auto-correct!

Ruth May

I said that I would be back this afternoon, commenting on this episode, but I made the fatal mistake of watching the Young Royals documentary straight after the finale and I am drained of every last vestige of emotional energy. I started crying quite early in season 3 and haven’t really stopped, even though I am not usually a crier. The documentary is soooooo good and I really hope you guys are going to react to it..but maybe leave a breathing space between the finale and the documentary, for sanity’s sake! All I can say in my current brain dead state about this episode is that the strain on Wille and Simon’s relationship and the threats facing their ability to be together are clearly gathering momentum. Some of them are rooted in class differences, some in family tensions and some are lack of understanding and real communication- and not just between Wille and Simon. No-one is really making it clear to Simon that certain things are expected of him or why they’re important, in terms of his social media, for example. It almost seems as if that’s fallen to Wille by design, rather than coming directly from the Royal Court, so that his attempts to explain to Simon without upsetting him will inevitably fail and thus put further pressure on their relationship. The idea that Wille and Simon’s relationship could be used by the Royal Court to suggest ‘a more tolerant Sweden’ as Fatima said in episode 1 seems like a cynical manipulation rather than a genuine desire for openness, in my opinion. Freedom to be yourself versus conformity continues to be an important theme in this season so far. Even in terms of Felice’s not really being heard when she tries to talk about her identity and her experience of being seen as different underlines how difficult it is as a young person to avoid being ground down by that.

Ruth May

I think one of the things I like most about this season is Felice getting more screen time and us actually getting to know her better. One of my favourite characters.

Ruth May

This season is certainly a roller-coaster! As others have said, please do watch/react to the documentary once you've finished the season - it's wonderful! I saw Omar's debut solo concert in Stockholm last month and he was phenomenal! I was also lucky enough to meet him :) He is a total sweetheart and his beauty is mesmerising.

Jane Pickett

Here to Learn, it was in tents/intense, like it, gg boyz

Gina Lipkin

The tools to speak up about what matters most to you

Gina Lipkin

These series are a support group to recognise and acknowledge what young people experience, in the hopes they are seen and heard

Gina Lipkin

So pleased we can celebrate ourselves more and get some limelight, love to all

Gina Lipkin

These two have comparisons in their lives to Heartstopper wouldn't it be wonderful if they all met each other and had fun together? What a celebration 🎈🎉

Gina Lipkin

Did you know this is Omar's/Simone first acting role, just like Joe/Charlie in Heartstopper? Omar is a singer usually and wants to pursue this, but omg what a first entrance he's made in front of the camera, beauty inside and outside, wow to them both

Gina Lipkin

I’m so looking forward to every Young Riyals reaction from you guys 😃. I agree with Josh about the phonehour for Wilhelm. How about just opening the door and get Malin’s phone 😁? Or use your computer that is on your desk and facetime Simon 😂. I tune in with the rest of the people here and say PLEASE react to the dokumentary ”Young Royals forever” on Netflix when you watched the last episode 🙏🏻🫶🏻. We would love it!

Marstrand

Well said re: Felice and her tone deaf friends. Also, if nothing else, people can be an ally. Just like our lgbtq+ family. Give love. Don’t be the person who’s like, “Im not racist/prejudiced/sexist/bigoted/whatevs. My best friend is (insert minority group).” Be a real ally. 💜

snallahej

i really hope you guys react to the hour documentary that goes into their final days shooting and talks about the impact of the show it's just so good i cried so much

Katie Holmes

ok. i will not tell if i am pissed off or not, because of no spoilers policy, but shit, my face hasn't been this swollen for a long time. and i watched "all of us strangers" recently

karolina tersa

"I hear you serenade yourself sometimes" you two make me laugh sm 😭

Aster

I just saw the finale, so good! Can’t wait till you see all of season 3 to hear yours comments ❤️

Magical Adorabella

I am emotionally exhausted from watching the finale 😴🤯 but by tomorrow afternoon I’m back watching this. There’s a lot of interesting stuff in this episode…

Ruth May

Oh Frances! 👏😂

Ruth May

just finished the final episode and i am in pain😭 they’ve made a little documentary styles bts thing called “young royals forever” on Netflix that you guys would love when you’ve finished the show!!!

Grace Cain

I think the point that's getting missed here is that the initiation that is getting publicity was in August's first year. That means (I'm guessing) that one of the third year's planning that initiation would have been Erik.

Dennis Verner

Awesome reaction to watch! One thing that struck me watching it the first time and even more the second time is that while Wille doesn't get the needing to work every summer when you are a teenager to contribute to the family. Simon also doesn't truly get what Wille's whole life is like. He has probably been in photo shoots and interviews and videos of the royal family his whole life. Even as a baby. He was definitely told that the cost of being a Prince is that the whole nation must have access to his whole life. It is not that same thing as working for a wage every summer, but the hours the royal court expects him to be available are probably way longer. And did they follow the max hours a child of 5, for example, could work while doing photoshoots etc? And he is still doing the Crown Prince role while still in school. And then, the very next scene we see Wille may actually have to become King soon, which at the end of the day is a job. A big job. None of the rest of the kids there have the same kind of pressure (even the other privileged ones) and completely don't understand not having a choice about it.

Chelsea

I just finished the finale and the documentary. Can't wait for your reactions to the remaining episodes!

JayJay

The writers of Young Royals can never go wrong. You're right. We've seen Felice being singled out for her hair in past seasons. We've seen how Simon and Sara are treated as less than by some of the others. It's all been there. It's hard to wrap around that these three seasons have all taken place within in the same school year. It's only been maybe six months since Erik died?

Chris Metzger

I'd have to disagree that Sara moving to her dad's was two faced. In episode 1 Simon asked her twice, very angrily, to leave their mom's house. Shortly after that she moved to their dad's. Which to me conveys that she went to their dad's out of an attempt to do as Simon asked. Once again, she's autistic, so she often does things in a very literal way, and then Simon reads a ton of context into her actions that don't seem to be there for her. I honestly get frustrated at Simon's inability to take any responsibility re: Sara. He yelled at her in the first episode for not talking to him before doing something that affected him, but he was doing that to her throughout the first and second season - and then he blamed her for the fallout of his independent decisions. They've all made mistakes and Simon is one of the least willing to take any responsibility for his.

Rowan Cannell

It was indeed inten(t)se 😂😂😂

Frances

Could not agree more on the religion front. I have so much to say about it ... But I'm not sure it's helpful. I guess mainly I think anyone targeting queer people with bible verses and shit is ignoring vast swathes of the Bible that talk about not judging others or you will be equally judged, loving everyone, etc. Not to mention, Jesus had *zero* to say about gays but LOADS to say about the rich, and literally no reference to homosexuality in the Bible is talking about a loving and committed relationship. Lemme just tuck this soap box away before it gets out of hand...

Jacqui Chesterton

I just want to shake some sense into all the adults in this film

Hannah Howden

THE AUDACITY OF THE SHUSH

closetdoor

I do love Wille.....but if he shushed me "it sounds like we're fighting"....I'd cause such a commotion 😂 "oh it sounds like we're fighting does it, I'll show you what fighting sounds like" 😂

Louise Poole 🍂

I love your reactions as usual 😉😉👍🏻👍🏻🤣 And yes Omar Rudberg has a great voice , he has been a Singer since his teens

Fredrik Aronsson

My thoughts exactly!

Jera Hanson

since i'm planning to watch the finale today, i'm curious if i'll be too pissed off to watch this video later. time will tell...

karolina tersa

Yes, he sure was! Well played Josh

Diane Furlong

oh josh, you never fail to make me laugh with the dad jokes 😂

ser brienne

Good point at the end there where you both said that they don't have time to decompress and talk over issues that they have before the next obstacle is put in their way. But exactly, this is real life and time is not given to them with these pressures. What Wille and Simon have in common is their love for their family and wish to protect them. Both of their families have been affected by their actions even if it's not their fault, it's the fault of circumstance (and August of course). I can't imagine being 16 in love with my first boyfriend and our very relationship baring a weight on our families. They're too young for their relationship to be worth that sacrifice I think. They also are not getting the adult help they need to navigate their relationship and pressures because their parents all have their own issues. Wille has had to step up to adulting (as possible real immediate back-up for his mum), in the same way that Simon has had adult pressures in his home. To parent Sara by protecting her at Hillerska, trying to get her friends etc. avoid their dad and protect his mum from what was really happening at Hillerska so that she wouldn't worry.

Dionne Lakey

This! At least we have Josh and Alex to look forward to.

Dionne Lakey

I loved this reaction- you guys really GET this show and what it's been saying all along. I hope you get more subscribers to watch your takes because I was nodding along incessantly.

Dionne Lakey

Josh you were so proud of that joke! So happy for you lol!

Dionne Lakey

After binging the first 5 episodes, I had a feeling some people might think and get annoyed, that what happened to August and Niels(I think his name was) back then is put in there to make us feel sorry for August in a way(even if its just to explain some of his actions cause people aren't onedimentional), and after hating him so much, that might be hard. I'm a bit conflicted/ambivalent there myself.

Sara Nissen

I always get tickled watching Josh get uncomfortable when singing/or orchestra is involved. HS band/orchestra performance, JB singing in the restaurant with Hawk, Henry singing at Karaoke, Bobby in Bros singing his song to Aaron. Josh you’re definitely consistent 🫶💕

Diane Furlong

The amount of hurdles they hit as a couple is very irritating! haha It's interesting to see Wilham trying to juggle his emotions but also try to see if he'll consider Simon's thoughts/feelings....just how he responses to him makes me think he hasn't fully grasped it yet! 🫣 Also Josh the dad joke at the end was just a cherry on top of the video! Thanks babe 😘

Nikki Hearn

Thank you for all the content you've put out in the last couple days. Lots of Love from Holland <3

Suzan de Boer

watching this with 3 hours to go for the last episode😭

Grace Cain

i love your reaction and i cant waite for next one i hope we dont have to waite to long i feel sorry for both of them because they going though so much shit but they just need to talk to each other and understanding each other and work together as a couple and its just hard for both of them.

lisa mcarthur

I could see the queen having a severe form of stress or depression, because she overworked herself trying to handle everything(even if it could have been done better) and maybe not allowing herself to propperly grieve over Eric, and now we see the consequences I guess.

Sara Nissen

Oh, yes! Nothing happens in a show when they go camping!! 🥴 😆 The day is upon us. The last episode ever of YR. 💔 It's good to know we still have your reactions to look forward to.

Stian Kristoffersen

Yay, now I'll watch this before bed 🙂
