2023-12-05 18:30:24 +0000 UTCWhen this episode aired, I almost stopped watching it because I was so mad at the domestic violence scene and how unforgivable it is. But I stuck it out by remembering that they're vampires and they're all kinds of effed up. When I said "it gets worse" this is what I meant. They do love each other though, as effed up as that love is. I think it's also important to remember that Louis isn't the most reliable narrator either. Who knows what he can and can't remember? That doesn't excuse the domestic violence at all, of course, just something to keep in mind going forward. Remember "memory is a monster."

I almost quit watching this show after this episode aired because I was like "I did not sign up to see a black man get beat by a white man and then dragged by the throat like trash" but I am glad I kept watching. I still have a hard time watching that particular scene but I try to remind that they're all effed up.

2023-12-04 22:33:15 +0000 UTCI love this show because it isn't really about being gay it just also happens to have gay characters. the show really tries to explore "otherness" and the effects of being outcast from society. it asks the question are vampires inherently monsters or did being condemned to the fringes of society make them monsters? it's fascinating!

2023-12-04 15:47:06 +0000 UTCIt's key to remember that all vampires are made from trauma. They are all fucked up in different ways and act out distructively. Louis' anger caused a race riot. Claudia turned into a momento keeping serial killer. Lestat assulted the one he was desparately trying to hold on to. I love the complexity of these characters. This show is masterful in it's storytelling - so much more to come!
