FELLOW TRAVELERS E3 - UNCUT

Comments

The last scenes, with Hawk in the clinic are very revealing. We find out that Hawk seems to have sex with other men, strangers, like it's a bodily function, just something that has to be done every few months. And never the same guy twice, which I suspect is because that would feel like being unfaithful to Tim, who he clearly loves far, far more than he can admit, even to himself. And at the very end, wanting to nurse Tim himself, to be with him, despite knowing that he'd have a lot of explaining to do, is, I think, the part of him that wants to be out & free to be with the man he loves. There's a recklessness to doing it. Lucy knows about his relationship with Tim, and here he is putting Tim ahead of the move to Italy that's been his dream for decades. The knowledge that he IS going to lose the love of his life is going to force a discussion that should have been had years ago, and I think he's as surprised by himself as Tim is.

One can never have too much fan!! 🪭

Michele Berman

I am late watching these but I just realized that the man in McCarthy's office is Roy Cohn. He worked for McCarthy and then went on to be a very famous lawyer in New York. He never came out publicly but he is now known to be gay and died of HIV/AIDS in the 80s but had his doctor's say it was cancer. He was a major character in the famous play/movie Angels in America. Maybe there will be more on him as this show progresses but he is a well known person from the 80s in NYC.

Amanda Graham

Yup.

Shari

It was Cohn who taught Trump to always lie, deny and to never apologize.

Lorenzo Bouchard

Yes, Hawk & Tim visit Rehoboth Beach, Delaware… at the southern end of the state. A popular Summer tourist destination, and an escape for folks from Washington D.C… especially gay men back then.

Grant Youngblood

This show is bringing back the full horror of the 80s for me. I was only a kid but I remember the AIDS/HIV epidemic so clearly. It was absolutely terrifying. I was in church based schools and my after school childcare lady was very religious. I only ever heard about how it was a "gay plague" and how it "served people right" etc. I remember the horrifying leaflet drops and the adverts on TV. I remember Margaret Thatcher and her condemnation of gay people which led to section 28. To have gone through McCarthyism and then the 80s as a part of the community is unimaginable to me. This programme is superb at highlighting the fact that previous LGBTQIA+ generations fought so damn hard for us to be where we are now and that we have to keep that going for future generations.

Jennifer Fell

Yup!

Shari

And also a mentor of Donald Trump, which says a hell of a lot about both men (and watching Cohn’s tactics in action just show the blueprint he left behind for Trump)

booknerd_charlie

He really hasn't aged at all.

Jamie

This show is breaking me but I’m so drawn in and captivated by it. The more we see it’s quite the ironic juxtaposition of Hawk outwardly seen as the ‘strong’ character is always taking the easy path. Tim is the one with more strength of character and convictions. P.S. I just googled Tim Bomer’s age and am shooketh! How in this planet does a 46 year old man look like that?

Jennifer Thompson

It hurt my heart to hear Jonathan sing that way. In the book Tim is a good singer, but I understand the dramatic choice because it adds extra cringe to the scene.

Jennifer Thompson

Episode 4 was amazing, can't wait to see the reactions to it

Chris Mackenzie

I think it's love. I think it finally sunk in for Hawk that he doesn't have much time left with Tim and they already wasted so much time. I know there's no happy ending here, but I am hoping for some resolution. Like, Hawk admitting his feels and not going back to Lucy, maybe.

Jamie

This show is JUST SOO GOOD even tho it breaks my heart every episode I still love it

THIS SHOW HAS ME IN TEARS EVERY EP IM FR CURRENTLY DEHYDRATED FROM THIS WEEKS EP (as i am every week). i love these boys and the cast so very much edit (after re-re-re-re-rewatching the ep): i find it so interesting, so sad, so unfortunate, to see hawk, in the 50s, be, at that point in time, the "fuck-it-all", unapologetically himself kinda character (within the limits of society); yet, in the 80s, while he is the same, society has evolved - far from perfect, as we know - and it makes the same behavior seem so... suffocating, and tragic, for him. he's played the straight man because he had to, he did everything he could to survive, and yet in the end, he didn't - at least not as his true self. i obviously understand the reasons why but it adds to the heartbreak for me. food for thought.

lo !!

I don't know how two people would have even been able to find love in those times, where most of their encounters would have been opportunistic, random and anonymous in nature. However, having said that; why does Tim send Hawk his paperweight? Why does Hawk travel 3000 miles to see Tim? Could it be love? I don't know. But at some point in this series there's going to be a lot of tears. I better get a box of Kleenex in. 😁

Pip

I just love when the notification for your reaction to Fellow Travellers pops up. I watch the episodes on Paramount wondering what you guys are gonna think about each scene

Cadu

I think it's kind of funny that I think that Hawk and Tim are similar to Louis and Lestat in the sense that it's unhealthy, but they clearly love each other and are sort of obsessed with each other. I'm sort of similar to Hawk in the sense that I too, like to live in denial of any and all emotion until I absolutely have to deal with it, which says a lot about both of us (just saying I understand that part of him). I also find it funny that Hawk is very dominant in bed, but then he is a cuddle monster too. He's got a lot going on in that brain of his.

Jamie

I thought so but couldn't find anything to support the thought so went safe lol

Jacqui Chesterton

That was Robert Kennedy, JFK's little brother.

Diane Furlong

Oh! And the wording/relationship you were looking for is Master/sub 😉

Shari

You should Wikipedia Roy Cohn. He was a horrible horrible person. Nothing redeeming about him. Self loathing everything.

Shari

I’m actually sitting on a beach watching this! It’s cold and a bit rainy, but still… beach! Yay for having the day after thanksgiving off. 😁 Anyway, once again thank you for the virtual hand holding. I for real can’t make it through this show by myself. It’s so heartbreaking to watch, but I can’t stop. The whole ‘it’s not who we sleep with, it’s who we love’ part - literally just had a conversation about this with my daughter last week. Tears were involved. I said those exact words to her and to hear them again from someone else? So. Many. Tears. You guys. ❤️

Jennifer

I don't think it was McCarthy who had Schine's draft status changed, I think it was whoever Marcus gave the info to in episode 2.

Jacqui Chesterton

It's the reason for the book bans of lgbtq characters in children's books. It's seen as sex not love. It's fine for children to see straight adults or characters in love, but lgbtq characters are seen as perverted because all they see is sex. It's ridiculous and so hypocritical.

Dionne Lakey

The fact that Jonathan Bailey was filming this, Wicked, and Bridgerton simultaneously is remarkable. His talent knows no bounds. Watching him sing out of key, knowing that he’s vocally trained is hilarious. He even chose to submit for Supporting Actor for the Golden Globes so not to compete with Matt for Lead Actor. Even within this show, the range of his portrayal of Tim is phenomenal. I love the juxtaposition of past Tim constantly seeking past Hawk and now in the present, Hawk begging for Tim to give him a chance. So heartbreaking to watch.

Jenny Lukan

I just said the other day I almost hate watching their story unfold because we basically know how its going to end because of the time split. I'm so attached to Tim, seeing him 'present day' is heart breaking 💔

Louise Poole 🍂

"It's not 'who we sleep with', it's who we love". That's so powerful. Tim is such a beautiful soul, who only wants for Hawk to say that he belongs to Tim, like Tim says to Hawk. He never gets that, and that's so sad. Even in the 80's where you can see that he's been beaten down so many times, most especially by Hawk over the decades, he still belongs to Hawk. That's what makes this so tragic. Also, Rehoboth Beach is still a big, gay destination here in the Mid-Atlantic. I've been gaying it out there with my gay friends and lovers for the past twenty-five years. It's a lovely town.

Chris Metzger

My reaction to that scene: 😱🥵 I need a fan lol

Henry Riley

Yes, and that beach is in my home state. I was just there last week. Alex and Josh, you seemed surprised about McCarthy. I believe it was episode 1 when Hawk calls Tim with the job info of working with McCarthy, he says “Watch out for Joe’s hands” In this episode McCarthy slaps the male employee’s butt. Jean Kerr questions the “Bonnie, Bonnie and Clyde” and then points out that all 3 men are single. Now the photos.

Diane Furlong

Thank you. I live on my own and watching this with you is the best company. I've spent a lot of time crying but you are making it bearable 🩷💜💙

Ann-Marie Still

Thanks guys, really enjoying your reactions for this wonderful series. Great way to start my weekend in Australia.

Chris Mackenzie

Thanks! Just what I needed today!! ❤️
