2023-11-08 04:21:38 +0000 UTCAids hit when I was about 12 and realizing I was different from other boys. I was 15 in '86 when part of this show takes place and could no longer avoid the truth that I'm gay. Aids and HIV scared me so I was in my late 20's before I had full on sex. Scary times.

Life was so bleak for LGBTQ+ back then and I remember when my mom talked me about McCarthy and his hearings. The closest parallel for my generation was the Watergate hearings. Then when I was in my 40s I remember the Clarence Thomas hearings and how Anita Hill was so brave to stand up to all those white male senators. Things are better now but it’s still so precarious. When I look at the new Speaker of the House in the US Congress, I just shudder.
