HEARTSTOPPER S2 EP5 - UNCUT

Comments

You mentioned restaurants on the Eiffel Tower. There are indeed two, but they’re not both original. In 1981, during restoration, it was determined that the original restaurant La Tour Eiffel was too heavy and risked damaging the tower. So it was disassembled piece by piece and found its way here to New Orleans, reassembled in 1985 on St. Charles Avenue. Since then a string of owners and entrepreneurs have tried to make a financial go of it. All have failed.

Steve Teeter

They literally had a four-five day visit to Paris to get this all done, the actors were worried about managing it & it looking rushed, lots of improvising and quick thinking on their feet, they work so hard and produce incredible performances

Gina Lipkin

in the graphic novel charlie is incredibly angry when he finds out about tao accidentally outing him/not telling him that and they don't speak for a while, which honestly i find more believable given the extent of his trauma as a result of the bullying.

b

You both manage to say exactly what I'm thinking so many times! I cannot watch a "foot-popping kiss" without thinking of Princess Diaries, and my husband and I say, "I'm gonna write a letter!" all the time!

Morgan Arguello

They do in the book but it doesn't occur to them to ask for a bit, and I feel like AO said they wanted to do it in the series but there just wasn't a natural fit? Could be wrong on that second bit.

Jacqui Chesterton

So many things in this episode btw in the original comic Charlie tells Tao that he tripped in the shower... and eventually Tao does tell both Nick and Charlie why didn't you just ask the girls ? I assume the reasoning this didn't happen is because putting the bruise on with makeup in the first place means covering it up with makeup is a nightmare without smudging the original makeup of the bruise itself.

Harry

you guys are so funny, i literally cry laughing

Lizeth Quispe

👍🙂

Pip

My favourite piece of art is 'Wheat Field with Cypresses' by Van Gogh - it's in the National Gallery in London.

Anne-Louise Fortune

and in the Dulwich Picture Gallery - that's where Charlie faints!

Anne-Louise Fortune

So glad I found you guys on YouTube and joined Patreon. Your uncut videos make me laugh so hard. Love you guys! BTW How long have you been friends?

Grace

I would just like to point out. Elle and Tao were making out and loving life and Charlie was just simply unconscious and on the ground. I feel bad for laughing at that but you know it's true. Edit: I also wanna point out. Ben said "Charlie didn't even give me time to figure myself out before you came along and stole him" the thing is though. Charlie stayed with Nick the entire time of him figuring out his sexuality. And the entire time of figuring out how to tell people. Charlie is so patient. Charlie didn't like Ben because Ben assaulted Charlie.

Makayla Hall

Nerdy technical point here. They must have been given very limited time to film in the Louvre because a lot of the "Louvre" scenes have been filmed in the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery in London. I know this because I was in London yesterday wandering through the galleries (like you do) and recognised the painting that inspired Elle plus the show hasn't even bothered to disguise the various signs and notices in english. Glad I got that off my chest. 🙂

Pip

Yes, someone else mentioned Josh noticing Nick's hesitation before saying he cared about Charlie. It felt like Season 1 and Nick's hesitant comment about Charlie's haircut. As though he almost said I love you as in the comic. We will see echoes of this later.

Dennis Verner

Ah ok, thanks 🙂

Cathy Mills

No, I think it's in October!

Rosie Carlisle

Was Josh's charity run this weekend ? Forgot to look when it was 🤦I'm eager to see their reaction to the rest of the season as well but I understand they have other important commitments 🙂

Cathy Mills

Yes please ! We need ep 6

Wildallie Diaz

*crosses everything*

Rosie Carlisle

And, of course, not a real Metro station.

Dennis Verner

5 days is definitely too much waiting ;)

Silme Elen

Episode 6 today? : )

Carrie Lindley

Ok, now i need episode 6. Please...

Silme Elen

I can't wait for you guys to see episode six. One of my favorite sweet scenes in the whole series :)

Adrienne Gosselin

They don't meet back up until 5PM, so they could theoretically do whatever they want up until then.

John Walker

The blue and yellow is finally turning into green 💚 Love this. Can't wait for your reaction to the next episode 🙂

Cathy Mills

Friends , when are you putting up WP 6 ? We are waiting !

Wildallie Diaz

This is in Canada btw

Luna

About the hand holding thing. I volunteer tutoring teenagers and from what I have seen, gen z (esp late gen z) are very comfortable with skinship and it doesn't raise eyebrows if two guys hold hands/hug etc. So yes while I think for us millenials(I'm assuming u guys are millineals 😅) it would have been a "hmmm" moment, for them it's nbd

Luna

there are other teachers, but I think they are just focusing on the lead charracters

charlie

There were a number of issues that Alice introduced: because of filming the museum MontMatre, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre were closed and people were supimposed during editing; Elle had a monumental moment when looking at picture in Louvre; Charlie explained his eating disorder but he knew that he tried to promise Nick to tell him when things were to much, but during hug Charlie looked up and you could see Charlie couldn’t promise that (after family counselling for my daughter’s eating disorder that turned into bulimia, I learned why he just couldn’t promise without losing control, and that was his reason to Nick; Elle and Tao finally kissed, as Charlie fainted; Nick called Charlie “his love” in French; the director, Euros Lynn, was the security guard; we saw both the s2 teaser and trailer; and Alice was able to bring her books to life. Alice is a genius and the last episodes hurt so much 💔💔😭😭

Tina Stellato

Also of note, Charlie has been dealing with these issues prior to meeting with Nick. The bullying family issues, Ben, etc. That’s why he’s Striving for perfection with Nick . So Nick will not have to deal with the turmoil he dealt with and in trying to protect him Charlie has reopened so much of his own struggles.

D

Another great reaction video, absolutely crying with laughter at some of your comments. Also, fun fact, the security guard was played by the director of the show Euros Lynn ☺️ but also, how can Nick and Charlie just run off, like surely the teachers are gonna know they have lost two kids in Paris 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Gemma Brown

Hmmmm, stand corrected on the eye colour!!

A Story Worth Telling

Good point on the sort of awareness of the causes of Charlie's ED. I think this show actually has those sorts of conversations a lot - where these kids have surprisingly adult takes and communication skills. I think part of the show's vibe can be summed up as "aspirational." In a lot of instances, the means by which the characters deal with some of their problems is probably a little too ideal, but that's part of the show's intent, I think: to model what some of the better communication is in dealing with situations that queer people almost never get to see in media. One of the benefits of non-queerness is that straight folks can see situations in popular media over and over that may or may not crop up in their actual lives. They've seen break-ups and first loves and marriage proposals and all the rest of it over and over. It gives someone who is growing up and seeing those things a chance to think about how they'd handle that given situation. Queer people has so many dynamics that are outside of the heteronormatie that we almost never get to see those scenarios, and consider what we'd do in those cases. Honestly, it's one of the reasons I love this show and want so much more like it - we deserve stories about us.

Joseph Carriker

I thought for sure that someone else mentioned it but I can't find it. The guard that hollers at Nick and Charlie when Charlie is swooning over Nick speaking French is Euros Lyn the film's director.

Dennis Verner

I literally laughed out loud watching you two tonight. Sometimes in tandem with you. Thanks for that, definitely needed it. Keep up the great work, guys.

Bryan Sutton

Oh my Goodness, every time Nick says “You do know that it was me, Right?” Takes my breath away and my heart skips a beat EVERY TIME I watch it. 😍 Then I think, Diane get a grip they’re just kids especially from my perspective. But if someone leaned in towards me with that expression and tone of voice I think I’d follow him anywhere. There I said it and I’m not sorry 😂

Diane Furlong

It’s taken 3 forevers to get here this evening but here I am.

Diane Furlong

CHARLIE/JOE HAS BLUE EYES!!! i will not stand for charlie spring blue eye erasure!

k8ie

Once again, you guys brighten my day! Can’t say enough about the upcoming episodes! You can see the care and trust they all developed in this season! Joe Locke handles Charlie’s storyline with grace and maturity!

D

Actually, Joe (Charlie) has beautiful dark blue eyes.

Silme Elen

I'm so proud of Charlie. It's hard to admit to someone that you struggle, but Nick really did say the right things to make him feel like he could open up. It's not always easy to articulate why you suffer with ED. That it's helping you to deal with stress, trauma, anxiety, depression etc. You're so focused on food intake, body and rules that the things you're really struggling with are pushed aside. What a person with ED needs, is simply support and a willingness to understand. (Even though you don't, and it's hard to see a loved one do the wrong things.) Shame is a huge part of ED. Your eating habits are shameful, your rules are shameful, your looks are shameful. It's an enormous help if you feel like you can "do your shit" without being judged. Of course, it's important to get help and I believe the road to recovery is much easier if you have an understanding partner or family to support you.

Stian Kristoffersen

Nope, Charlie (Joe Locke) actually has blue eyes, they’re just a darker blue.

Massiel Lago

As always a great way to start the day. Such a good episode, not only for Tao and Elle but also for Nick and Charlie. Your observation about Ben being in the background as a wedge is really interesting. I saw a lot of shots where Ben just came into shot behind the action as a reminder that he is a looming threat. Like when Charlie was sitting at the table after collapsing, Ben wanders across the back. I had not seen that before. Anyway, off to work now. Excellent spending some time with you over breakfast ❤️

Steve Marshall

I felt the same 😤. (ha ha)

Steve Marshall

Love it when you interrupt my day with a new video!

Trisha Renee

@Kent oh! great catch!

a s

I know there are so many other things I could say about this episode but I'm so offended by you calling a Caravaggio painting a Monet 🤣🤣🤣

Mildred Locke

I loved your reaction and I adore your banter. Alex's endless double entendre's while Josh tries to be sensible get me every time 😂😂

Jennifer Fell

watching it with you guys is amazing xxx

Richard Hurst

Nick is SOOOOO perceptive, thoughtful, caring.... I mean.... it's honestly so refreshing.

Literally Natalie

Sometimes it is hard to see but Joe's eyes are actually dark blue almost gray :) https://laletrade.com/images/biography/Joe-Locke.jpg

Giovana de Bona

Yes the Mona Lisa is not that big actually, and I immidiately thought about Alex with the Romeo + Juliet reference. Isaac giving Harry his two cents was great! And Ben is being delutional as you said. He clearly has stuff to work out, but he'll never get Charlie back.

Sara Nissen

I literally can’t deal with anyone else’s reaction videos but yours are always phenomenal, y’all are so funny but also speak so respectfully about the serious topics and representation I’ve known a lot of people in my life who struggle with eating disorders, including an ex of mine and several close family members. Most people are hyper aware of what’s going on, and try and do everything they can to hide it and not let anyone else see that there’s a problem. It’s so difficult to try and find the balance between letting someone know you’re there for them and potentially helping them find professional help, and not causing absolute panic within them by letting them know you’ve picked up on their habits as that can be their worse nightmare. Nick does it so perfectly, and I can feel the absolute distress and helplessness of watching someone you love suffer in this way. Charlie opening up to Nick really speaks to how safe he feels and his willingness to trust Nick despite everything he’s gone through ❤️‍🩹 he’s such a strong character and I think such an important role model for anyone fighting ed

Hannah Howden

Alex: Arsehole, prison, convict David..Josh: Oh yeah! 😂😂👏 Thanks for another variously hilarious and thoughtful reaction, guys. You are going to be locked in further debate about Ben and also Darcy before long, I reckon. There’s an awful lot to be resolved and we’re running out of episodes! I have to keep reminding myself that there’s a season 3..

Graham & Ruth May

I love that. Didn't had that connection but now I see.

Iris

Spoiler, but I think we may have seen Elle have a moment of inspiration for something of hers we see later. ????

Kent Smither

Someone mentioned how the eating disorder scene was handled in the comic. Note, here, that as they get ready to board the Metro, the sign behind them says, "École du Coeur." School of the Heart. First class production team.

Dennis Verner

One of my fave parts of this episode is actually the costuming. The characters are wearing those outfits in the cover of Volume 3 of the graphic novel. I love that level of detail.

pawntksqueen

I absolutely loved when Charlie asked for Nick before he fainted. And also when Charlie opened up to Nick about his eating disorder, really thought that was important to show. And your reaction to Charlie's critique of the Croissant was perfect. I laughed just as hard when he said it was a bit dry, then went to the sandwich. Can't wait to see more reactions.

Logan de Hoyos

Thank you guys !

Florence H - France

Just to be an art nerd: The painting Elle looks at is by Caravaggio (Supper at Emmaus). Monet’s work usually focuses on nature and water lillies.

a s

Prison David 😂🥳👍

Prinsassy

Also, you guys should react to the red band trailer for the movie Bottoms, about a high school fight club started by lesbians. The movie comes out in theatres in august and looks hilarious. It also stars Nicholas Galitzine who plays Prince Henry in RWRB.

Crystal Pritchard

Another lovely episode. I'm so glad Tara finally confronted Darcy about not acknowledging the "Iove" word, and started questioning why it seems that she hides parts of her life. I'm sad it took Charlie fainting in order to have the conversation with Nick about his eating disorder, but I'm glad it happened. Tao and Elle finally kissing after 104 episodes of teasing us was great. Ben is highly delusional thinking he can possibly get Charlie back. It all comes back to the tight grip he had on Charlie during their "relationship". He thinks he has the ability to lure him back if he could just get Nick out of the way. Harry seemingly taking to heart what Isaac told him is surprising, but welcome. Still doesn't make up for all his fuckery in the past, though. I'm 100% with Alex, I'm totally shipping the teachers!!

Chris Metzger

It’s funny how different experiences can affect how you view things. I grew up in Canada and went to an all French school, with English being the only class in English, and I hated it, so French just does not do it for me. I’m more about accents, English or Australian accents.

Crystal Pritchard

your comment about having a Nicky not a Hicky was bang on point

indigo

I would say it would have been too inquisitive if Charlie hadn't passed out in Nick's arms. First time I fainted from an ED, I really felt I needed to explain myself to the person I was with, which was awkward, but fainting is no joke, its a serious issue if you're passing out from your ED, so I think Nick had a very good reason to ask. I also thank the show for having Charlie explain the ED for what they really are, control issues. David isn't closer to his dad than Nick, I think David is a dick who lies a lot, clearly Nick isn't afraid of his dad since this is his plan. Also he says he basically never sees him, he probably thinks this is his one chance. Imogen is a queen, Ben is delulu, Issac got through to Harry clearly (major props on that), and idk about best art but I love Garden of Earthly Delights.

Mads

I got the feeling that Josh noticed something in Nick's hesitation after he said he was Charlie's boyfriend and before he said he cared about him. In the comics, in that moment, it cuts to an image of Charlie and the phrase 'I love you' is faintly floating in the air all around Charlie.

Jared

still mad at the girls for not offering putting on some makeup on that hickey like come on

Kennia

What day is RWRB expected? 👀
