A/N: So orcs’ saying is not butterflies in the stomach but caterpillars, because I think that’s super funny. Enjoy!

He regrets the message as soon as he hits send.
He’s being too forward, he’s asking too much of you. But the date went so well and he can still taste you on his lips, how could he not? But he starts spiraling, thinking about all the cases he knows about humans who rejected the mate bond, monsters who lost their significant others and went mad…
And an hour later he’s still worried so he sends another text, his fingers fumbling over the letters and missing some. Fuck. Can he be more ridiculous? He corrects himself, but looking at the screen he can almost feel the blood draining from his face.
You are going to think he’s a loser, you are going to walk away and he’s not going to be able to kiss you ever again. He didn’t even taste your pussy and you are going to go away and he would never have the change.
He spends hours spiraling out of control, anxiety munching on his insides as he looks at the ceiling unable to sleep. It’s well into early hours when sleep finally claims him.
He wakes up feeling like he hasn’t slept at all, his dreams filled with incoherent images. But when he checks his phone, your name is on his screen, next to two unread messages. His heart skips a whole beat, making him think he’s having a heart-attack and almost throwing the phone across the bed in his hustle to type the password.
He can’t hold back the screech he would forever deny he lets out. Your good morning warms his heart from the inside out as he types a good morning of his own, the caterpillars inside his stomach crawling around until he’s thronging the sheets off and kicking his feet a bit. He’s acting like a teenager in love, but he can’t stop himself from feeling so fucking grateful to have you.
He sends you a quick text and drops his phone when it starts ringing instantly. But it’s not you, his mom’s pic flashing across the screen. “Hey there, mother!”
“Somebody’s happy,” he can hear the smile on her voice.
“Of course I am. The sun is out, spring is coming…” He sounds a bit too cheerful, and he tries to tone it down a notch, but his stupid grin won’t leave the his mouth.
“And you are completely head over heels with your mate, aren’t you?” She sounds very amused at that. He hums, not wanting to accept it, but unable to deny it either. “Don’t worry, baby, you don’t need to say anything. I know. So I take that means your date went okay?”
“What date?” He tries to act nonchalant, but he knows it’s definitely not going to work. There’s nothing that escapes Adhara Stromblood when it comes to her kids.
“Don’t lie to your mother,” she says, faking offense.
He chuckles, getting up to go make some coffee. “Who snitched on me?” He pries, trying to know which one of his siblings is going to get a nasty surprise on their door.
“Ekaitz,” she confesses. He groans painfully. Of all his siblings, it had to be the one that he feels obligated not to be mean to. Ugh. “But don’t be mad at your brother, he’s just happy you’ve found your mate.”
He starts the coffee as he thinks about how Ekaitz acted when he told him about you. “I’m not so sure about it. He looked like he might have an aneurysm when I told you about her,” he tries to sound okay with that, but it hurts a bit not to have his brother’s full support.
“He didn’t. He’s happy for you… but you know about his past, baby.” There’s an edge of pain in her voice.
“I know, mom. I know.” How could he forget about his brother’s mate dying? Nobody can forget that kind of pain, even if they don’t live it in their own heart. Watching Ekaitz cry as he held onto her body was bad enough that he still had nightmares about sometimes.
“So it went okay?” She asks, changing topics and bringing his smile back to his face at the memory of you.
He lets out a happy sigh. “It went better than okay.” He tries not to sound too smitten when he talks about you, but he can feel the caterpillars moving and his insides twisting with happiness, the stupid grin never leaving his face. His mother doesn’t say anything for a beat, and he ends up spilling his secrets: “I’m meeting her tonight again.” The power of orc mom’s silence is undefeated once again.
“Is that so? Does that mean I’m going to have more grandbabies soon?” She sounds excited and he almost drops his coffee. “You know your brother Inar doesn’t want to have babies…”
“It’s been ONE date,” he reminds her. He’s not even sure if he wants kids, and he hasn’t asked you if you want kids. It’s way too soon… Even if he wants to do some baby-making as soon as possible.
“More than enough, just make sure her legs are elevated when you knot her…” His mom says, as if she’s talking about the weather.
Unax lets out a gagging sound. “Nope. Not talking to you about that. I’m going to hit my head against the wall and forget about you talking about knotting my mate.”
His mom laughs. “Love you, baby.”
“Love you, too,” he says before hanging up, the stupid grin still fixated on his face.
He can feel the caterpillars inside his stomach turning and twisting, the anticipation feeding them as he does a little dance in the kitchen, so happy that he could burst.
