You're thinking of the "traffic light" system, where green is ok, yellow is stop and talk about it, and red is stop immediately. In this case, the safeword is like the red in that system. Idk, Gabby may not want to answer, because she thinks, that if Emma learns that she might be a switch, she will loose interest in her, which wouldn't be true imo. Emma lives and dies for dominating, and what would be a better feat, than to dom a dominant person. I believe that Emma's 'strength' of love is based on how much she trusts Gabby, which, it seems, is based on how much obedient Gabby is. IMO, that's a crap measurement. Hesitancy on Gabby's part in answering probably makes Emma think Gabby is trying to come up with an answer that pleases Emma but gets Gabby off the hook. Let's be honest, that's exactly what Gabby is doing. It's Human Nature 101. Gabby needs to not think and give straightforward, non-thinking, answers to Emma. Gabby, if Emma breaks up with her, may learn this lesson the hard way.

To recall this scene go to chapter 6 page 22, how do I know?
