❄️😡😤 LET’S ARGUE! 😤😡❄️ (DECEMBER 2024 Thread)

Thank you so much for supporting us this month and throughout the year! Now's that magical time when you hit us with your HOT TAKES, UNPOPULAR OPINIONS, and TOUGH QUESTIONS; drop em down in the comments and we'll look through them all in a couple of weeks. Let's go!

I think a holiday theme would be fun & spice things up, but it's optional! If you have an unrelated take you can run it.

In case you missed last month's LET'S AGREE: https://www.patreon.com/posts/lets-agree-it-to-116364634

PS: Sorry I probably should've made a post yesterday about there not being a NMF stream. Anthony said it on his socials, but again, I should've mentioned it here too.

Not a hot take but I wish you reviewed Monarch of Monsters by Vylet Pony before the year ended. I imagine with it being a very dense 80 minute record dropping near the end of the year there probably wasn’t time to cover it but I honestly think it’s one of the best releases of the year and one of my favorites of this decade so far. It’s such a powerful statement and I had no idea Vylet had it in her to go this deep.

Not every song with a similar drum pattern to Black Skinhead is “Yeezus inspired”

Drake Parker

“Danger Ways” by My Chemical Romance is a true career ender. Not only the album sucks by itself, but it also signified the end of the relevance and, probably, the end of the line for MCR itself.

Vladimir Bakula

100years later people will still be banging that Mariah Carey during Christmas, unfortunately

Room temperature take: But Here We Are (2023) is an incredibly overrated album. It’s lyrically vague, blandly produced and is remembered MOSTLY for Taylor Hawkins’ tragic passing. In fact, if we were given no context what topic the album was covering we’d have almost no idea what Dave is even talking about - lines like “I gave you my heart.. but here we are” are just INCREDIBLY lazy writing. SUPER overhyped.

In my opinion the biggest disappointment in music in 2024 was the differences in reception when Beyoncé and Post Malone made their foray into country music. I’m not a Beyoncé fan but she caught way too much heat just because she approached CC with a defiant feminist attitude. Country fans rejected it immediately but Post starts wearing camo and calling everyone “sir”, and he gets a standing ovation at the Grand Ol’ Opry? Like he wasn’t making mid pop-rap not even two years ago.

Tyler’s music would be better if he stopped caring about what Twitter thinks of him

Drake Parker

The Numb/Encore mashup is better than both of the original songs individually

Rate my mom's top 10 tracks this year: • Billy Strings – Gild the Lily • Adrianne Lenker – Free Treasure • Fontaines DC – Girl From the Record Shop • Yannis and the Yaw – Walk Through Fire • Kasey Musgraves – Deeper Well • Michael Kiwanuka – Floating Parade • Kim Deal – Crystal Breath • Hermanos Gutierrez – Low Sun • Cloud Cult – The Universe Woke Up As You • Common and Pete Rock – Wise Up

So, instead of a hot take or a let’s agree, I’m going to say this. I was at a low place when I stumbled onto your channel - recently separated, unhappy with my life, looking for focus and set adrift. You helped convince me to commit to music - my love since FOREVER - and start actively participating in its discourse. You are a big factor in my decision to listen to new music and start making new music. Seeing you turn what is such a simple medium into a genuine art form and critical tool is honestly really inspiring. And watching you take time to engage with your patrons with listening streams and even these Let’s Argue segments is generous and genuinely very cool. I know I can probably rankle you with my takes but I do genuinely respect and appreciate you. You’re one of the good ones.

Good music will always be less popular than mid music. It's not a matter of raw numbers in a void, tho. GNX made good numbers, but DAMN. (a worse album overall) continues to be Kendrick's most successful project. You can also use Drake's projects as examples. Mostly mid, but way more popular because mid music makes numbers. In the end of the day, good and bad will always be extremes by definition.

Avenged Sevenfold's Life is but a Dream is the metal equivalent of Angelic to the Core

Self-Aware Onion

A Christmas Gift for You From Philles Records is the only Christmas album that I think can be judged on its own merits outside of the holiday season

Kyle Cahill

Epotty is awesome and should host her own solo Let’s Argue

Drake Parker

While I think Lonerism is a better overall project by Tame Impala, Let It Happen, The Less I Know The Better and New Person, Same Old Mistakes have to fit somewhere within the top 5 all-time of his discography.

vvo

There is no truly legendary masterpiece Christmas album that changed music forever

TheSupremeChozorizo

Have you ever considered covering vtuber music in any capacity?

Swaggurai

What is your general thoughts on the future of Swan’s music? They said that they’re releasing their last big sound album early next year and simplifying things down continuing on. Is this gonna be another iteration of Angels of Light?

Ash Chang

With the way it’s rating has increased on Rateyourmusic, Linkin Park’s Meteora could find itself as being considered of one the greatest alt rock/metal albums of the 2000s and overtake Hybrid Theory for their magnum opus. Not sure how much of a hot take this is, but the re-contextualisation and influence of Nu Metal in modern artists like Poppy and Chat Pile is hinting at it.

Nick

I’ll take it one step further. Of course we all know that Lars is rubbish live but Kirk is overrated as a guitarist. He’s good, he’s got great solos, but let’s not forget that James is the one who writes all the songs and comes up with all the riffs. He’s the one who should be featured over the two on greatest guitarist lists if it came to that.

Nick

Discussions about the greatest rapper of all time seems pretty pointless endeavor because, compared to other genres, rap discographies tend to be either very short or widely inconsistent. Due to this, it's much harder to gage their talents and the comparisons between them tend to be very 'apples and oranges'. For that genre, it's much more worthwhile and interesting to compare individual albums as opposed to their full careers.

Herbieguy98

Cringe take.

Herbieguy98

Anthony once said that coal chamber is the band that produces ,,most basic ass songs,, from which i can understand that the music is boring and my question is if coal chamber is boring how can Charlie xcx brat be 10/10. Like seriously the album is so boring the 4/4 club kicks all time, a little interesting synth and pluck sounds but lets be real creating a interesting synth sound is like 1h work and them 2010s pop Katy Perry ass vocals on autotune. Album just brainwashed into being good.

Diarrhea Boys

The Blood Brothers have one of the best discographies in hardcore/punk history and beyond, and they don't get the recognition that they deserve these days. their debut, 'This Adultery Is Ripe' shows a band already confident in their unique sound. 'March on Electric Children' showed more ambition, expanding styles of music they would incorporate. and then the run of 'Burn, Piano Island, Burn', 'Crimes', and 'Young Machetes' should be in the conversation for legendary three-album streaks. they developed a songwriting, instrumental, and lyrical identity all their own, and somehow in all the chaos, all the members of the band perform together with incredible cohesion. pair that with the quality and intensity of their live shows, and you have an all-timer of a band.

Daniel Segal

All year-end lists should be made YEARS LATER, as how the art withstands the test of time is vital. Recency bias can also unintentionally creep in. The benefit of hindsight can only make these year-end lists better, which is the ultimate goal.

Christopher Cassara

James Hetfield is the only exceptional musician in Metallica. It's wild that one of the biggest bands ever is 3 out of 4 mediocre players (cliff Burton innocent tho).

Trevor Young

The Cranberries deserve way more attention than they get. Their debut is one of the best albums of the 90s

Isabelle

If Jeff Buckley went on to make more albums and evolve his songwriting, Grace wouldn’t get NEARLY as much praise as it does. Vocally he’s great but there’s just nothing special about the songwriting imo.

Nate Solero

As a retail employee, I can safely confirm and persuade people, that there are better Christmas songs than All I Want For Christmas Is You.

Venture

I don’t like the guy, but Jimmy Fallon could have made a passable Xmas album if he just made a goofy comedy album. Still wouldn’t have been funny, but he tried to make radio hits with terrible production and songwriting with ZERO jokes in them so it’s just… bad holiday corporate radio pop??? GROSS.

Tuck

The gap between P4K’s Editor and Reader EOY lists is the biggest it’s ever been, and shows that the GQ acquisition really did send the site off the edge

Alex Sim

Can we get a butt rock band tier list or deepdive? Is it something you see worth making content of?

Zach S

The most melodramatic rock song is sweet child of mine

Zach S

i would love to hear your take on the August Burns Red Christmas songs, they have a whole album and almost every year they do another new christmas song. this year they did Waltz of the Flowers. P.S. they have this song called 'Spirit Breaker' (not holiday related) and it includes this awesome spoken word poetry section, if you have any other suggestions in this lane i'd be very interested.

It pisses me off that Sabrina Carpenter stole art designs for her merch from Jeffery Lewis. Jeffery has been in the music industry before Sabrina was even born and huge artists stealing from small artists is so infuriating.

Skullring27

Any one of Adam Sandler's "Hanukkah Song" series beats every Christmas song easily, with the possible exception of "Feliz Navidad"
