🤔 LET’S ARGUE?? 🤔 (August 2022 Thread)

Thanks so much for all your support this month! Now's that magical time when you hit us with your HOT TAKES, UNPOPULAR OPINIONS, and TOUGH QUESTIONS! Drop 'em in the comments below and we'll look through them next weekend. Let's go!

For this month let's try emphasizing the TOUGH QUESTIONS part of the prompt, as those tend to yield some interesting responses. Maybe it'll end up being more like a Q&A, but that'd be fine for a change.

Chromatica is Lady Gaga's best album in terms of flow. The Fame Monster had more iconic songs but between The Fame, The Fame Monster and the deluxe version of The Fame Monster that most streaming services default to there isn't really a canon tracklist. If you don't listen to the deluxe you don't get every essential track, but if you do listen to the deluxe its 90 minutes long and not every track is worth listening to. Chromatica is a tight 43 minutes, each song flows into the next seamlessly and it boasts the best features of any Gaga album as well. Truly the best experience Gaga has given us in album format.

They Might Be Giants are the most prolific, most idiosyncratic, versatile, and therefore BEST pop duo of all time and don't receive the credit they deserve. My fav band of all time :) Also you should do a classic review of your fav TMBG record

Fandingus I went to a UK hardcore festival recently in which Injury Reserve were playing. I was very excited to see them but they had by far the smallest crowd on the stage and there were very few of the people who were there were enjoying their set. I've always thought heavier hip-hop acts like injury reserve, death grips and peggy had a lot in common with the hardcore scene. Why do you think it didn't go down well?

Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers has grown on me the same way The Life of Pablo did. both albums are a mess production-wise, but very consistent narrative-wise. they're both incredibly eccentric. they're both brutally honest reflections of self, warts and all. i guess what i'm trying to say is, why no yellow flannel, Mr. Tano?

Down the line would you be interested in doing content regarding video game OST’s?

Long-time listener, first time commenter. Anywho, I was in THE go-to chatroom, America Onli.. I already hate me. Bad, hot, old-man-ish, why Charlie hate take (1)... save for the singles, Stankonia, is fine. I'm a big Cadillac (22 inch dubs, of course), Atlanta, Alien, both an Aquarius and Gemini... somehow, but not a record I replay as a whole. Bad, hot, old-man-ish, why Charlie hate take (2) ... Curren$y, with a US dollar-sign, as neither pot-head, nor have a dollar sign in $hmuffalo (wait.), makes damn good music. Albeit, too much. Covert Coup, Cigarette Boats, How Fly, New Jet City, Fetti, Verde Terrace, The Marina.. I won't name 60 projects, are outstanding. Funny wordplay, mainly earlier music, but drew me in. Sigh. Bad, hot, old-man-ish, why Charlie hate take (3) I say I'll expand upon in other posts, and forget... Drake went full Inception. Finally fully embraced he's not a rapper by way of making dogscoop music, pardon the language, saying he is "[n]ot a rapper" while spending the preceding 8 years saying he is the greatest rapper. (Part 3 was written by Christopher Nolan). Paralleling Drake going fully cripple.. fuck. Bad, hot, old-man-ish, why Charlie hate take ... I will catch up on music post-2017, and make a part 4, 5, heck, may even make it to a fuller Niner. -Shmuffalo Costanza

Hey Anthony, In your 2012 review of Billy Woods’ “History Will Absolve Me,” you said u hated “pointless posturing” in rap & hip hop music. How has your attitude changed in the decade since you made this statement? Has aggressive MC posturing in American rap evolved to where the music benefits from genuine and/or affected bravado? Or, In your opinion, does rap have an eternal swagger problem? Thanks, keep up the good work

All these albums are great but I want you to rank them worst to best "Ghostface -Fishscale,Public Enemy-It Takes a Nation,The Roots-Things Fall Apart ,Madvillian-Madvilliany,Outkast -Stankonia

Because you have so much influence, your reviews can give an artist a massive boost. Does it ever give you pause when an artist you have critically praised, for example Daughters, gets outed as reprehensible? Do you ever think "damn, I gave them a platform" or something like that? Or do you accept that it's part of the job that some people you praise will not be the most favorable people? I know you took down your review of a band that you realized was NSBM affiliated, so I'm curious about your thoughts, love you melon

Dream Pop/Shoegaze needs to see a big resurgence in the artistic scene of it, especially besides groups like Beach House, need more Sweet Trips in the world tbh.
