Overpromotion of an album can ruin the listening experience upon release.

Amaris Wilson

Any thoughts on 99 neighbors? Major Brockhampton / Injury Reserve vibes.

Shanehck

It's okay to enjoy music without knowing the lyrics. In the same way you can enjoy music in other languages. Your focus can be on the songs vibe!

Do you still have that Charles Manson sticker on your laptop

Griffin

Sometimes a music video ruins the mental image a song gives me. Like I now think of a shitty music video everytime I hear it. Does this ever happen to you?

The glow pt. 2 is the best album of all time

Emma Dobson

Eminem’s Relapse is full of hidden gems that you come to live if you go beyond the first listen

Noah W

Listening to classical is so relaxing.

I agree with most of your Sea of Worry review except for your complaints about the "washed out" vocals. These vocals have always been a part of HANL's aesthetic so it's strange that you are only taking issue with them on the most recent project.

beammeupjosi

Would you rather only listen to music through airpods for the rest of your life or only wear contacts for the rest of your life?

Oatmeal is the ultimate breakfast meal. Incredibly nutritious and infinitely customizable. Pancakes are overrated.

beammeupjosi

when are you gonna do a pink floyd tier list. why don't you do reviews on classic rock albums from 60's-80's???? what would you review caress of steel?

How often do you have to pass on the opportunity to review something that you want to review because there are more profilic releases that you feel like you have to review?

Uhh.. "sad" is subjective

Daniel Parton

I don't see the problem here

Daniel Parton

They way people are praising the new Uzi album proves a lot of newer rap fan have never heard any music beside modern rap/hip hop

Bamie Jaker

Angelic 2 the core will be looked back on in the same light as Trout Mask Replica in 10-20 years time

lowkeymatt

I feel like MF Doom has been getting neglected lately as being considered one of the greatest rappers alive. Not by us fantano boys, but the hiphop community as a whole. For how versatile Doom is, I don’t think he’s been getting the respect he deserves.

Nathaniel Zaccagnini

Rebecca Sugar is one of the most influential indie-pop artists of the 2010's.

WhyDoIBother

Streetlight Manifesto is the greatest ska band. Ever!

Personally, I think of all of the iterations of consoles that Sony released the PS2 was the worst objectively when looking at it now. Of course the PS2 had some classics but overall there is few reasons to own one now when the PS3 and PS4 has ports of almost all of the good games. I own one because Atlus sucks and I can use it to play Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga and Persona 3 FES.

kitfistofangirl

Sometimes, it’s better when the album cover doesn’t prepare you for the album because it adds an element of surprise on your first listen. Case in point, From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots by Dälek and Since I Left You by The Avalanches

I’m regards to hip hop it takes more skill to rhyme some syllables per bar with the goal to make the consumer feel what they feel without going through it than to rhyme every syllable with something just to rhyme

Jason Armstrong

At what point do we differentiate between artists worshipping their influences versus blatantly ripping them off in their music? And when does it become a legitimate and fair criticism of said artists?

Tyler Craig

You saying Orville Peck's vocal's "stink" is horribly wrong. I can see where you're coming from with your other criticisms, even though i like his music, but he is definitely a talented singer.

Meteora has better production than Hybrid Theory but Hybrid Theory has both better song compositions and more memorable lyrics/hits.

FELCommentary

Les Rallizes Dénudés is one the most underapprciated bands and their noise rock experiments were way ahead of their time

Marnie Stern is not only under appreciated as a female musician with her own unique sound, but also under appreciated in the repertoire of Zach Hill’s work.

Andrew Shaktah

it is literally impossible to rank all the members in NWA from worst to best; go on, try it.

superdude75561

Why didn’t you review Street Worms by Viagra Boys? Saw it on your top 200 albums list but no formal review unfortunately. Definitely a top tier post-punk album from this decade

Chris Hickson

You hate on Grimes for making a 6 minute ambient song with "So Heavy" and call it too long, but an old white man screaming Oxygen for 8 minutes is one of the best songs of the decade

beef

"Stop Making Sense" is the only good concert film.

Kevin Marcellus Horan

They're both performing at the Roskilde Festival this year, so maybe there will be a WWE-style showdown.

Kevin Marcellus Horan

why are you a j cole hater

*Bohemian Rhapsody has entered the chat*

Double EPs are just LPs

Andrew Shaktah

You don't need music theory to make good music but it does help

Concert films should make a comeback! After watching Stop Making Sense last week I have this urge to watch more and there really aren’t that many stand out ones.

Jay Reatard probably would’ve made a 10 had he not passed away

Chris Hickson

Evil Empire was definitely a better album than RATM’s self titled. It might not have had the same power in it’s singles (save bulls on parade) but it’s a tighter listen with no slow or dull moments in the tracklist and every band member put an exclamation all of their skills showcased from the first album.

Chris Hickson

'Break Stuff' by Limp Bizkit is actually a really damn good "don't fuck with me"-type song

Arnarok

Kacey Musgraves is what Taylor Swift wishes she was.

Yoko Ono made some good music

Adam mezzarone

The solo in The Unforgiven is one of the best guitar solos of all time

Adam mezzarone

Pink Floyd's best album was animals or the wall i guess

Rockos Modern life was the best Nicktoon

Behemoth’s The Satanist is not only quite easily the best metal album of the 2010s, but the best metal album of all time.

The Scissor Sisters’ cover of ‘Comfortably Numb’ is superior to the Pink Floyd original

If you enjoy the music it doesn't matter if you're listening through studio headphones or ear pods

You feature Cal less and less and that hurts... I miss him.

Intro Bonito is THE BEST KKB project, bar none, and it deserves some love on TND.

Shanehck

lil Yachty is actually a good rapper

How familiar are you with The Tragically Hip? I think they would make a great topic for a tier list or "Worst to Best" video

Technology has had a crucial role in evolving music; do you think there will be another evolution in music making technology soon?

Beer.Browser

Dua lipa has the chance to be a top tier pop star, but as of now she doesn’t have the personality or stage presence to do so

NBA Youngboy is soooo overrated. Lyricism is not good, music sounds the same, and production is basic and mediocre. But you will always see him trending on youtube. please explain.

The lineup for coachella this year is pretty damn good

Also. Tame Impala Tries Too Hard.

What Music is your go to for the rough days, or the good days?

Do you ever wish you didn’t keep your personal life so private? Like, are there ever times you just wanna tell everyone about a new development in your life? I’d have a really hard time staying so private 🤷‍♂️

Bossa Nova isn't dead and is far from "elevator music". It's influence on popular music currently is on par with disco, which has been hated for long too. Both genres were neccessary bridges between the great parts of soul and popular music. It may have bridged the gap without them, but these two genres strongly contributed to it and carried the bridging really...

Flobots fight with tools is as relavent now as it was 13 years ago

a kero kero bonito + Travis Scott will be a an 11

Virtual instruments are the CGI of music. Not necessarily good or bad per se, but analogous in terms of something out of the box vs practical. But as with most things digital, can and are abused quite often.

Metallica’s And Justice for All would be their best album if Metallica had made decent production choices. Not only that the bass should’ve been turned way up but also that the guitar tones are terrible on that album.

Riley Schmedeman

You should make more "top 10 songs" list, they're entertaining.

Joey Jojo

stop laughing

The Mint Jams version of Midnight Rendezvous is a much more complete and better track than the original 1979 version.

You should really listen to the first part of Moses Sumney's græ. I don't think he's releasing the album in this way as a cheap marketing trick, rather this is how he wants his art to be experienced. Also it's fucking amazing and you're missing out.

Deep cuts has Better music taste than you:P

Nathaniel Zaccagnini

More of a question, but Anthony I see that recently you’ve been getting more emotional in your videos with certain artists ie. Royce Da 59’. Any specific reason why?

Nathaniel Zaccagnini

People who are concerned about affording Bernie Sanders' proposed changes aren't being dumb. When a guy wants to change how your country works it could backfire. Especially when the guy (like most politicians) only half explains his plans.

Seinfeld

Bernie Sanders.

You might have the best teeth in the game... but I have the best bald head in the game. Come at me melon😘

Travis Scott is currently the most OVERRATED artist in the rap game. He is no longer the groundbreaking, experimental artist that his fans and the mainstream would have you believe. While it is true he came onto the scene with a sound basically exclusive to him, with not many of his contemporaries sounding like he did, he has since failed to evolve and grow that sound and as an artist. He instead stays his comfort zone, making music that seems more formulaic that is trying to appeal to the fans he already has. Without Travis attempting to be on the cutting edge or change his sound, he loses the factor that set him apart from any other generic auto tune heavy trap.

Bamie Jaker

Your criticism of God Made Girls could be made to any number of contemporary hip hop songs and is arguably more destructive due to the popularity and cultural influence of hip hop and isn't talked about enough because "That's just how the genre is"

Jin

Atari Teenage Riot was decades ahead of their time. Their influence can be seen in everything from Death Grips to 100 Gecs, yet they are rarely mentioned in musical discussions.

Anyone who clowned on B.o.B. for being a flat-earther should also have clowned on Freddie Gibbs and Royce da 5’9” for being anti-vax. Arguably Freddie and Royce deserve it more, because flat-earthers aren’t getting children killed by preventable diseases.

Owen W

You knew what score you were giving the Green Day album before hearing it

You should review Misadventures by Pierce the Veil. They're the only band I listened to when I was 13 that I still listen to occasionally now in my 20's

g4ng

The best Green Day album is Kerplunk!

Anthony, leaving cal chuchesta out of the top albums of the decade list is just plain mean!!!! he’s been your room mate for over a decade and im sure he would appreciate being a part of the end of the decade list!! FREE CAL CHUCHESTA!!

Aced

On top of their musical qualities, albums that seek to tell a story should also be judged on how effectively they communicate their narratives, as well as the caliber of the narratives themselves. I think Tommy has some transcendent musical moments, but the story does absolutely nothing for me, and I can't help but think less of it as a result.

Uncle Jam

Music has never been more polarizing than in the age of streaming. Trying to find common ground musically with a group of people is more difficult now that everyone has their own subgenre or vibe that they're looking for.

This is completely untrue. So many people were excited for that album and were disappointed. I couldn’t finish the album way before anyone meme’d on it, and I’m not unique.

Joey

It’s something to be appreciated, and empathized with, not enjoyed. Like reading Poe or something.

Joey

You excited for a potential new Jay Electrónica album soon?

Señor C

Guitar Hero kept rock music from dying out commercially in the mid to late 2000s

Benjamin Lisboa

If the Eagles' "Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975)," which is just a compilation of previously-released material, is considered a 38x platinum album, then playlists on streaming services should be eligible for the Billboard album charts and RIAA certifications.

Considering John Darnielle/The Mountain Goats have covered more of the USA in their music, they should pick up Sufjan's mantle and do all 50 state albums

Cameron Ford

Being that Public Enemy has always been so vocal about leftist politics, it's no brainer that they would endorse Bernie, and Chuck was right to fire Flavor Flav. He wasn't fitting the group's political MO and was getting in the way

Jon Hoskins

Why don’t you ever review bonus tracks when reviewing an album. For example, in your Good Kid MADD City review, you didn’t mention songs like The Recipe or Black Boy Fly.

Year of the Snitch is possibly the best Death Grips album since The Money Store. It expanded the band's sound and approach so greatly to the point where it could barely be called hip-hop anymore, and instead more purely experimental music. Helps that they pulled it off so nicely.

My friend has been saying this for a while: "Fantano's review of DAMN. didn't address the underlying narrative of DAMN. in any way, like the meaning of the track BLOOD., the character of Kung Fu Kenny, or meaning/significance of the reversed version."

NevadaNate

You don't necessarily need to remember an album to say that you like it. A positive experience is a positive experience.

Noah Mendell

You often avoid absolutes when talking about songs/album. Instead of saying something is THE MOST you’ll say ONE OF THE MOST even in objective cases (ex: an album has one sad song and you’ll say it’s “one of the saddest on the record”). Why is that? Is it something you learned in school?

Bohemian Rhapsody is really annoying at this point

Services like Bandcamp or SoundCloud haven't done away with the concept of the local scene so much as it's created an opportunity to allow a local scene to spread better. The Midwest, for example, still puts out emo records like there's no tomorrow.

carsausage

Ninja Sex Party cover of Pour Some Sugar On Me is better than original

Old Gregg’s Funk

Famous should have been in your top songs of the decade list since Power was and you placed Famous higher than Power in your Kanye Madness bracket.

That’s... not how that works

Gray Taylor

Juice wrld was on track to be one of the best and most well known rappers of all time. He was supremely talented at free styling and does not get enough credit for his lyricism. At 21 he accomplished things that most rappers dont accomplish in their entire career. His untimely death cut short what could have been an amazing legacy.

Sleeps Dopesmoker is easily one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Totally justifies its length and the textures and exploration of the album are amazing

Riley Schmedeman

"Stairway to Heaven" is the most overrated classic rock song in existence. It's simple cords, simple melodies, and boring lyrics.

Tony Chacon

hypnotize u by N.E.R.D is the sexiest song on the planet

superdude75561

Mesmerize is a better album than Toxicity. The song structures are more interesting and less repetitive in addition to the whole album being more thematically sound. Plus, Mesmerize has Question! which is pretty much the best SoaD song.

tryhard

People who listen to music exclusively on airpods/earbuds don't care about music quality... or their hearing

Josh Fried

Definitely better than most but I reckon live love asap and long live ASAP can go to toe to toe.

Terrence

The fact that the two biggest Rappers to perform at the Grammy's were both gay is something that I think could be a turning point for how the hip-hop community accepts members of the LGBT community.

ElephantofDoom

The biggest factor in whether we enjoy a song or album is if we are able to relate it to our current lives or if we listened to the song in a setting that means something. Therefore music cannot be declared good or bad as any given song can be enjoyed by anyone if associated with the right setting.

Lochlan Bailey

Murder Folk is a legitimate sub-genre and deserves more respect

The big day is underrated and actually has some pretty good songs on it. People hate on it without even listening to it and only hate because it’s the cool thing to do. it basically all started because of your review and the song that became a meme.

What does it take for a record to be a “classic”? How long should we wait before judging a record as a “classic”? Can albums like TPAB be considered be considered classic considering the overwhelming praise the album got and “Alright” effectively soundtracking the BLM movement the album is going to remembered at the very least but is it to early to call the record a classic considering it isn’t even 5 years old (although we’re approaching that mark very quickly)?

Terrence

Nu Metal isn’t as bad as everyone made it out to be.

Flip

009 Sound System is an underrated project. Old school YT memes aside, the album actually has some pretty solid production, catchy melodies, and overall works well as a trance/electronic work. As overplayed as it was, it’s hard to deny that “Dreamscape” is a pretty solid song.

Billie Eilish having won all 4 main categories in this year's Grammy show us, in theory, that the polls really are secret and well organized. if the results had gone through any adulteration, I find it very difficult that any of the three main singers indicated (Ariana, Lizzo and Lana) would not take anything, as they are substantial locomotives of the current pop too In fact, I think that Lizzo just didn't win more awards for the same racial factor pointed out by Tyler

Question category: if an artist released a full album but has some leftover tracks they want to release, what's your preferred method of this release? Examples: deluxe edition of the album with bonus tracks, an EP of extra content, or just released as singles?

Dennis Vilensky

In Rainbows is better than OK Computer and Kid A COMBINED. This is not to say that Kid A and Ok Computer are bad, on the contrary, they are amazing albums. But In Rainbows combines the best elements of both albums and always makes me favor it over the other two records.

Omar AlHashmi

Last one: would you listen to a collaborative album by Eric Andre featuring Tyler The Creator and Weird Al Yankovic? Do you think it would be ass?

Less of an opinion, but more of a question: Why didn't you give A Crow Looked at Me a 10/10?

Faris Al-Raqqad

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is the greatest rap album of all time

Elliott

Ybn Cordae has the most potential and talent out of any of the rappers in the new generation.

Mount Eerie's a Crow Looked at me really is NOT an enjoyable listen.

Between the Buried and Me often times dont get the credit they deserve for helping shape the current metal scene with the ways they included orchestral metal, folk metal, and metal core to their prog sound. 20 years later they still remain the most unique name in prog and metalcore

Madlib is an all around better producer than Kanye West

Bruno Caamano

Smashing Pumpkins was one of the best bands of the 90s! Siamese Dream is a classic, personally

Will you ever do any Patreon Let’s Argue episodes that are more Topic based like your best/worst albums of the decade ones on the Fantano channel?

logan rowan

Why do you think you have pretty much become THE voice when it comes to discussing music on YouTube while there's no single equivalent to you on discussing film?

GRFalk

Tennis-swimmer sounds allot vocally like No Doubt (Don't Speak) for example

Kirk Hammett gets the most unnecessary hate of any famous guitarist. He is no technical God like his thrash metal counterparts (Marty Friedman, Alex Skolnick etc.) but he wrote extremely memorable solos in the 80s that will go down in metal history as some of the greatest. His solos always fit Metallica songs extremely well whether they are fast like Damage Inc., One, Blackened, Etc. Or if they are more melodic like the Unforgiven, Fade to Black etc.

While I generally think that blackbear isn’t a great songwriter, he has a great voice and his collab project with mike posner under the name mansionz is actually a great project imo with mikes creative direction. The songs are a lot more interestingly structured and more experimental, and I really think it’s worth a listen if you normally write off his work

Speakerboxxx is a much better and cohesive album than The Love Below. People tend to rank TLB higher for its genre fusions and the fact that they prefer 3K to Big Boi, but Spkrbx is a tight catchy and top-tier hip hop album.

Oscar Kirk

Soul coughing are the most overlooked band of the 90s. Their great mix of heavy bass and drums with Mike Doughty’s vocals and lyrical sensibilities was really something special. It’s a shame Ruby Vroom and El Oso aren’t recognized that much today.

Brendan

John Williams is overrated

Mike O'Connor

The best misfits Era is the Micheal Graves Era and famous Monsters is their best record.

branm25

Is there anything about your reviews you are wanting to improve? Do you feel like you’re always learning the more you work? Or do you feel like you have a pretty steady routine and system that will work for you in the long term Right now? Much love melon🙏🏼

What are your “sources” to all these new releases from smaller artists and all artists in general?

JJ Araim

Cal Chuchesta has the Nas syndrome. He will never make another album as great as his debut record, The Calassic.

purple

Trap Lord by ASAP Ferg is better than all the other ASAP Mob solo albums including Rocky’s

Popular Music needs less songs about a love interest and more about fun concepts, its why I like Year 3000 by Jonas Bros, and why Old Town Road is fun

Quickplay!

There is no difference between hires audio and vinyl.

egg56

Sanders is the best candidate
