Ask me anything - the answers

Hello everyone! Last week you had a chance to ask me anything about Gynocracy. Here are the answers to your questions. I hope you find them interesting. Of course, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Zairus: Usually when an artist creates a piece of work, he draws his inspiration from other works (books, movies, games, etc.). What inspired you to create Gynocracy?

Gynocracy is a mixture of two of my interests, femdom and my fascination with totalitarian/authoritarian societies. So generally speaking, books like 1984 would be the initial inspiration.

As for games, there were two specific games that inspired me to create Gynocracy. The first was Darktoz's "Femdom City". That was the inception of the idea, because even though I've been working on various games for most of my life, it somehow never occurred to me to make a femdom-focused game. The second inspiration was "Estate: Dominate" by Henissart. I was especially impressed by the art direction of this game, very cinematic.

Siman44: Is there anything in the game you regret adding in from the chapters already released or something you planned but don't think will make it into the game at all?

After the recent drama, I regret adding the tattoo scene in the last chapter. It wasn't worth it.

As for planned things, my biggest regret is that I still couldn't add a scene with the band The Jynxed that was hinted at in chapter 3. Somehow it didn't fit into the story, but I still hope to add it in the future. Other than that, I make a lot of changes to my original plans based on feedback and how the story evolves. But I guess that's part of the process.

Zairus: There are already quite a few femdom scenes and various kinks in the game. Everyone can find something they like. But what is your personal favorite scene in Gynocracy?

Ok, this is hard. Maybe you guys can tell me what your favorite scene isπŸ˜‰ I like how the first scene with Barbie turned out. The protagonist comes into her room all confident that he can use her, but she completely turns the tables on him. I like most of the scenes with Kalie, she's an angel πŸ˜‡

John Hines: So I've really only seen a few games use gloves in scenes and I'm curious is it difficult to design and implement something that detailed but so small?

I can't take credit for this. I use pre-made assets, so kudos to the artists who created them. Technically, there's not much difference between gloves and other clothing. Fingers are small and can bend at sharp angles, which can cause problems with skin clipping through the gloves, so it may require some retouching.

Osirion3: I would only like to raise one point of criticism: the texts are in a black bar (which is good for readability). Unfortunately, these text bars often obscure parts of the image and thus often also the gender of the main actor. It would be nicer if the text bar was under or next to the picture, even if it would make the image a little smaller (but still be fully visible). It would be great if you could implement it like that.

Yes, it is a problem. I aim for a cinematic presentation and the text bar complicates things. I have to constantly remind myself not to include important details in the lower part of the frame. But sometimes it's hard to avoid it without compromising the camera angle. It's too late to drastically change the UI now, but there is a workaround. As MrTwister already mentioned, you can hide the text bar by pressing the "H" key. I should probably make this hint more prominent somewhere in the game.

Zairus: A question regarding the world of Gynocracy. In the first chapter in the learning center we see a map of Queens Isle on the wall. I wonder if you based it on a real island. If you remade a map of a real island, what is its real name?

Haha, it's actually a map of Malta, but upside down. I apologize to all the Maltese playing the game (both of them 😁). I chose Malta because it's a small island state in the Mediterranean Sea.

Siman44: When you do a new release how nervous/excited do you get? and how do deal with both positive/negative feedback from the players? is it tough to ignore the negative?

By the time of the actual release, I'm usually pretty numb, because it follows a period of frantic work to finalize the content. But before that, I go through the whole spectrum of emotions. I go from "omg, there's not enough of this and that, people are going to hate it!" to "hey, this looks pretty good.

Positive feedback is a huge boost to my confidence. With negative feedback, I try to find something actionable (not always possible). But yeah, it can be hard, some people are really mean. And nothing kills your mood like spending many sleepless nights finishing the chapter only to get kicked in the teeth by some random guy on the internet 😬 Oh well, you can't please everyone.

Siman44: How do the events take place in the Bachelorette/Lab scenes where you have multiple choices which you can skip, say for example you didn't select the Bull scene with Kalie has this event taken place still or not in the timeline would the characters reference it?

The scenes you skipped didn't happen in the timeline. The game will remember your choices and change the dialog accordingly.

The bull scene is special because it enables/disables all future cuckolding content for Kalie.

Zairus: It's clear that creating animations takes too much time, and if you start adding them to the game now, it will definitely increase the time between updates. Have you thought about adding animations to the game after the main game development is finished?

Yes, I have thought about it. I'm not sure if I'll do it, but it's a possibility. Right now, the lack of animations is the biggest criticism of the game.

When all the chapters are finished, I plan to spend some time reviewing the existing content and adding more polish before releasing the final version of the game. Animations might be a part of that, we'll see.

Zairus: How old were John and Kalie when they got to Queen's Isle?

Early to mid 30s.

I already replied to your private message, but for the sake of completeness, you need to download the game to your computer/tablet and run the app. The latest version, as of this writing, is available here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/bonus-chapter-118707049

How does one even begin playing the game?

Mark Nelson

Love the Q&A, thanks so much for doing this... really gave me some insight into the game and made me love it even more!

PetitLepin

And still as relevant today as ever. Unfortunately.

Orwell's "1984" and "Animal Farm" belong to the best anti-stalinistic novels I've ever read, and I can highly recommend to read them. Orwell wasn't forbidden in East-Germany without reason.

It was exciting and interesting to read your thoughts about you and your game. Thank you for your frankness! As for me I don't need any animation to get in the mood of a story. Even illustrations are only secondary to me because the most thrill and vibe I get from the narrative and above all from the dialogues and monologues of the characters. But that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy your awesome 3D-illustrations. One can see you were inspired by the overpowering "Estate Dominate". Everyone who plays visual novels should know about the "H"-key if one wants to get away the text and to hide it, even though there are some few VNs that don't have activated this function unfortunately. To conclude I want to assure you once again that your game "Gynocracy" belongs to the peak amongst the femdom games. That is my opinion at least, and I have played a lot of femdom games in the last years.

Frank Kuschmann

Thanks for your answers. I hope you had as much fun answering our questions as we had asking you. P.S. Now I'm gonna have to read Orwell πŸ™‚

Zairus

Thanks, it was nice to read the answers, this could be a good thing to do from time to time.

Santiago Perez

Thanks for taking the time to answer! some interesting answers in there for sure. despite my first thoughts about the tattoo scene i think the changes made really do make it a good scene!
