FMG Life Sim 2025 Polishing Update Beta 2 Sent Out!

Hello everyone,

The latest Life Sim Beta has been sent out! I simply uploaded it to the previous Google Drive with the Beta 1 because I feel that everyone who supported last month's release deserves all these fixes too, so if you have processed a $10+ pledge since then but have not received a link, please send me a DM here on Patreon.

Ended up finding much more to fix and polish up in the big playtest than anticipated!

FMG Life Sim 2025 Polishing Update Beta 2 Notes:

- Copied every single passage into a text editor and removed dozens of typos and grammar mistakes that had accumulated over the years.

- Devil's Machine has been expanded to allow transferring all of any attribute from the player to girlfriend. (Currently has simple descriptions for non-muscle transfers, kept the original descriptions for muscle as is - this whole creation will have a revamp in a crafting or transfer themed update).

- Added ability to give characters jobs in the test room.

- Added a 'quick start' option on the start screen that allows jumping right to the living room on default settings with a single click.

- Fixed Chaos Potion so both characters properly have a chance of obtaining the new Adaptive/Maladaptive Growth/Shrinking curses. Also fixed it so the scaling maladaptive tendons/reactions/metabolism can be obtained properly as well. This should fix the issue where sometimes drinking a chaos potion did nothing.

- Similarly fixed Excellent Evolution Potion so it can properly give the new Adaptive Growth non-scaling perks. This should also fix the issue where sometimes drinking an excellent evolution potion did nothing.

- If a character has Alchemical Sensitivity while drinking an Evolution or Chaos potion, they will state what perk/curse they received.

- Fixed issues where automated jobs were sometimes triggering twice or cost double time/stamina.

- Fixed an issue where an HTML error might pop up when using the recently added Rest together until stamina is restored function. Also fixed an issue where rest together sometimes only rested until the character with less missing stamina was rejuvenated.

- Fixed an issue causing an error to appear when the player exercised alone, and that also prevented his current atrophy (if atrophy is enabled) from being reset to 0 when exercising alone.

- Added 'nothing' option to work automation.

- Challenging Alison to Cyber Duelists should no longer produce an error and should now grant appropriate experience points.

- Performing the massage while at the beach no longer mentions laying in bed and instead mentions laying on a towel.

- Default, schmo, and transfer scenario (non-custom) characters now have their perk and stat difficulties properly listed in the options menu.

- Cleaned up Quick Talks and restored some broken ones.

- Cleaned up Both Go to Work menu. More cleanup will likely be needed in the future, especially as more jobs and promotions are added.

- Fixed+Enhanced Flexibility Level 8 scene for dominant persona.

- Player character now recovers stamina while watching the gf do pull ups and punching bag, similar to the other watch activities.

- Added checks to the relax X times and perform activity X times options in the Do Something Together menu so they require positive values to continue.

- Streamlined the coding of the posing/full body comparison activities to save a lot of words in the programming, and to maintain congruity between the two. Also touched up the linebreak spacing in this passage considerably.

- Posing separately no longer triggers the posing together art and dialogues.

- Computer research and typing practice activities no longer display "computer research" / "typing practice" passages don't exist error.

- Fixed issue where when acting separately the game would think that streaming options for the girlfriend are actually for the player.

- Foreman job should grant construction experience now.

- Reduced the price of the personal training and massage upgrades at the quick college from 400 to 300.

- Reduced cost of the Gravity Chamber from 2 to 1 Mega Batteries (planning on revamping this creation in a future update, but this should help make it a little better for now)

- Fixed visual error where the wrong amount of time remaining in a character's activity was displayed on the Split Act passage.

- Moved diving at the beach out of the beach exercise submenu

- 39+ other small fixes too small to list here. (These range from line breaks [fixing multiple at once = 1 fix counted] to restoring singular broken descriptions to other similar things.) Basically whenever after making some adjustments to the passage in the Twine editor I'd add +1 to a counter and rebuild + test the changes.

- Images are now back to their former default sizes. Unfortunately had to disable to image resizing options because new code is required for that function due to the Sugarcube engine update. Will be researching this and/or commissioning new code for the future.

KNOWN ISSUE: After performing an activity with job skills, sometimes a character will gain the job skills again after performing an unrelated job activity. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure this one out (while fixing up some other things in the process) but still haven't sorted it - known issue that's on the radar though.

Apologies to anyone who wanted to jump ahead to the next content focused update, but these fixes were quite important, and hopefully the less critical changes are appreciated as well.

Due to the nature of this update, the amount of time it takes to fix something can vary dramatically. Sometimes I immediately catch what the problem is and the issue can be fixed within minutes. Other times over an hour could be spent trying to figure something out to no avail, while most tasks lie somewhere in the middle. Additionally, playtesting enough to stumble upon bugs takes time in itself, especially the ones that aren't as obvious or documented.

Also please note that despite being named 'The Polishing Update' that there are probably still some undocumented bugs in existence, and possibly still typos that went under the radar (things can get very messy even in a real text editor due to the coding). As always, bug/error/etc. reports are highly appreciated and useful.

The next update will be the 2025 Description Update! Aiming to release the first Alpha in mid-April.

I know the 'bad' girlfriend won by 1 vote, and she will be the update after, but by focusing on the description update now, I can run a series of polls while working on it to shape the new persona, then immediately jump into that after the description update.

I have, though it's a real mixed bag. There have been a few times where it very quickly found, for example, which variable is missing a $ or something similar. On the other hand, it has also flat out hallucinated solutions to things that don't work at all, and typos are about the same speed as copy + pasting into an editor (plus it can become confused about what is actually a typo or not). That said, I suspect the useful cases will continue to increase over time.

Out of curiosity, have you tried implementing LLMs into your Twine editor workflow? Seems like it could be useful here to help fix bugs, typos, and implement simple features.
