　　かかとが粗い木目に虚しく擦れて、隙間なく迫る痒みをわずかな痛みで打ち消そうとするが、ただ新たな灼熱感を加えるだけである。絶え間ない感覚の攻撃と微動だにしない物理的拘束の間で、意識は引き裂かれ続ける。逃れたい——それは本能だが、この枷は、その本能を終わりのない凌遅（りょうち）へと変えてしまった。

　　Their heels scraped futilely against the rough grain, a desperate attempt to counter the pervasive tickling with a sliver of pain, only to add a layer of raw heat to the torment. Their minds were stretched taut between the unrelenting sensory assault and the absolute physical immobilization. 　　The heavy wooden stocks were an immovable reality. However much their bodies tensed and strained with the instinct to curl away or escape, their feet remained locked in place, cold and unyielding. All they could do was clench their muscles in a futile stand against the relentless sensation, until their minds were slowly submerged in this monotonous, yet overwhelming, sensory storm.
