WIP Comic Update - "Respite" (3)
Added 2021-11-15 18:24:15 +0000 UTCWelp. I know I said I was going to try and update the comic more regularly, but since it's been a while (again), I decided I'd fill you guys in on what's been keeping me busy with this thing.
Basically, I've been considering making the worldbuilding more clear by having narration over the panels, which involved re-arranging them. But as I went on, I had an idea on a new way of introducing the comic that might be more character-focused. ...Which ended up involving writing another outline, which in and of itself has it's own roadblocks.
So, I'm a little bit uncertain about things at the moment. There's a lot going on in this world I've built, and the main trouble is that I don't know how much of it to reveal, or how much I should explicitly "tell" through dialogue without it getting too boring. Not only that: I don't even know if I should "tell" it at all: maybe I should stick to the dialogue-less scenes that I've already drawn...
Anyways, it's a real mess, but hopefully it's a little insightful for you guys. I'm still very new to making comics, so I'm learning just as much as you might be.
Regardless, thanks for sticking around and helping me via the Patreon, it means a ton to me. Like seriously <3

That actually helps me a lot! I'm starting to think I've underestimated the amount of 'atypical' stuff I gotta explain before letting things go naturally. Like, I wrote the comic with the idea that most readers are already familiar with Protogen lore, so I guess there are some things I can leave off, but there are definitely specific histories in the story that I should most likely explain '^^ Thanks Ruth!

2021-11-16 04:31:01 +0000 UTCTelling a story without dialogue is definitely harder to pull off, but it's also more engaging (at least to me) for the people who do grasp whats going on. Though the benefit of dialogue is that you can explain things that are sorta sci-fi or 'atypical' of a standard world, specifically things that people may not understand without prior knowledge. Like for example, someone who doesn't know what protogens are would be /very/ confused about the scene involving the nanites if there was no dialogue. But they'd probably still be able to understand the fact that those nomads are salvaging resources off of bodies and selling them off. I guess it depends on how much you want the majority of your readers to understand
