Channel Update + AV1 support coming for Quest 3

Super busy working on the latest episode “61st annual east coast surfing /volleyball championship with Miss ECSC bikini contest coverage”. It’s looking to be about an hour long and have a ton of interesting content including some live music so I’m pretty excited about this.

It will also be the first episode to use the new premium 360 degree spatial VR mic which will bring an even greater level of immersion. It is taking a lot of extra work and I am therefore aiming for a Sept 30/Oct1 release date on this one, but rest assured anyone that held an active membership in the second half of September will be able to download the new episode - regardless of whether they have decided to cancel.

Looking forward to begin filming NYC Comic Con 2023 in about 3 weeks, it will definitely be a fun one to watch in 3D. After that, there’s a lot more episodes already outlined in the schedule post if you want to know about upcoming episodes.

Also, I’ve added a second editing computer with a Rtx 4090 ($5k cost) so I can work to give you even more exciting content at a slightly faster rate. It will also enable me to provide AV1 codec support for all direct downloads. AV1 will allow for Quest 3 users to have reduced compression artifacts over h265. The exact amount of reduction is unknown until I get my hands on a Q3 preorder, probably 10-20% artifact reduction if I had to guess. This will be a Quest 3 feature only.

Hope everyone has a great week, and thank you for all your support. As you can see from the big and never ending expenses, this work is extremely costly and although I am still spending alot of my own money (10x what I’ll make on patreon in a couple years at this rate lol) , I still couldn’t do it without the support I feel from my ongoing patreon members.

It’s incredible how much difference a $5 and $8 donation can make to make this a reality. Looking forward to continuing to make more exciting content in the future, with you all on my side.

Exciting news! Maybe getting ahead of myself, but the AV1 decoder in the new iPhone 15 Pro/Max should be exciting to see how that pairs, once there's a suitable 8K video player that supports it on-device.
