As you mention in the end, there is a big reason why this season isn't focused on RBD, you'll probably figure it out, but if not you'll have to wait until season 6-ish to find out, which will probably lose importance by that point

To be fair, Subaru DOES mention the stars of his world in the OVA you skipped, mentioning he himself were named after a star cluster, before he realizes the stars of this world are entirely different, obviously. While it was mostly fluff, there are a few moments in it that are noteworthy/foreshadowy I feel like. So I was suprised you skipped it.

Regulus' ability to throw sand for instance has been shown multiple times like when he vaporized Pandora. It's more like he doesn't freeze time in the sense that it doesn't move, rather that the laws of physics don't actually affect the items he touches. That's why Reinhard kept going up to the moon. Regulus seems to be able to stop the ability or it has a range limit because otherwise the stuff he throws would continue through everything forever.

Subaru is definitely well versed in astrology. It was referenced back in Memory Snow. On top of that the anime cut a decent few plans Subaru carried out against Regulus to get even more context to his ability. Eventually Subaru was able to put together that he stopped time on his body from stuff like Regulus not being able to get wet, the ice just hanging on him but not affecting him and his lack of damage he takes. He thought about the Regulus star and how that relates to the mythological story behind the alternate name for Little King, Cor Leonis. It's a ton of extra context and a bit of inference on Subaru's end that unfortunately the anime didn't go into nearly as much detail as you'd want.

The reference to “cor leonis” comes from Greek mythology, more specifically from the 12 labors of Hercules. One of the labors was to bring back the skin of the Nemean lion, reputed to be invincible. The lion used to trap women to lure heroes. I don't know if there is a correlation between the constellation and the myth other than the fact that it is a lion, but Subaru made the connection between the two, which is crazy considering the amount of niche knowledge required.
It doesn't mention the fact that he stops time or anything, but I think the author added some original elements to the myth so that it wouldn't be copied from the original myth.
I'm no expert on the subject, I did some research after the episode, but I would advise against trying to search too much on forums because people try to spoil too much, the amout of spoilers i've read doing that isn't worth it lmao

One thing, not related to this particular episode I'd like to point out that I think you guys never questioned yourselves is: yeah, Subaru didn't use RBD a lot this season, but going back to the beginning of the season, did you guys realized how in this loop his "checkpoint" was like minutes before his death compared to previous times when it sometimes would be several days

In the light novel, when regulus kicks Reinhard away, its a little different, with regulus using his breath to explode Reinhards leg Then kicking him.
Emilia tried to stop Reinhard, but he went through the ice she made to slow him down like it wasn’t even there.
If you want to read this section, I’ll put it here
“At some point, Reinhard had also started standing on top of the water like Regulus as their fight continued. Their superhuman clash went back and forth. Perhaps it was more accurately described as a deadlock.
That gave Subaru a bad feeling. Nothing good would come if their progress was stalled without any clues to develop a new hypothesis.
It wasn’t long before his premonition came true.
“—What?”
Reinhard had challenged Regulus at extremely close quarters. Just as he stepped forward with his left leg before his right could start to sink, he suddenly stopped. Or rather, he was stopped. He staggered, and the careful balance was shattered.
Reinhard’s right leg exploded below the knee, scattering crimson across the water’s surface.
“He got hit?! By what?!”
Reinhard’s brow furrowed in pain as Subaru shouted.
Neither Subaru nor Emilia nor Reinhard himself understood what had just happened. The answer came from the one who had laid down the gauntlet.
“You have a monstrous ability to evade, dodging even dirt and water droplets, but you’re too naive. If you truly intend to challenge me, you must stay ever vigilant. Even my breath requires caution. Sighs are no exception.”
Regulus provided an unexpected explanation as he swung his leg upward with little finesse. Reinhard had lost his footing and had no way to evade the bottom of Regulus’s fast-approaching shoe.
This Archbishop could turn bits of dirt and even water droplets into deadly weapons. It wouldn’t be surprising if a direct attack from him transformed his victim into shapeless gore.
Reinhard immediately blocked the kick with the sheath of the Dragon Sword, but—
“Gh…!”
“What is that annoying sword made of? And it’s absurd that it can’t be drawn, either. That’s what you call living beyond your means. Not that I can understand what that feels like!”
A shock wave shot out, creating a ripple centered around them on the water’s surface. An instant later, the water exploded and sent Reinhard flying.
He hurtled away at incredible speed, like a rubber ball that had hit the limit of its elasticity.
The kick contained enough force to gouge the road and blow away the whole canal. All that energy had been imparted to Reinhard.
“No! Stop— Gh!”
Emilia held out her hand, mana surging as she tried to catch Reinhard. Walls of ice spawned one after the other along his trajectory as Emilia tried to slow him down somehow. But the instant Reinhard made contact with one of the walls, he left a human-shaped hole in the ice and kept going.
“—Eh?”
Emilia was speechless.
Reinhard’s body crashed into the next one, but he passed straight through it as well. He soared through the walls of solid ice like he was going through a door made of paper.
There was no way to stop him. He careened into buildings, destroying them as he continued spinning uncontrollably until he disappeared from sight.”

While space and time are deeply connected concepts, Regulus's power seemingly only affects time on its own. I'm not hugely knowledgeable about physics, but I assume the implication is he can impart near infinite amounts of force onto stuff he throws since it is force applied and stacked up outside of time in a sense.

To add on the comment below this one: In Memory Snow its also shown that Subaru couldn't find the constellations from earth in this new world, so its quite a mystery why the archbischops are named like that in the first place.

Correct. Subaru liked his name and so learning about stars was his hobby. It's talked about more in the LN even before that, but it wasn't all that relevant at least until now. The anime can't adapt everything, especially when it's already super dense.

If I remember correctly, Subaru mentioned in the Memory Snow OVA to Beatrice while star gazing that his name "Subaru" is a Japanese name of the Pleiades cluster of stars. So they definitely already (altho briefly) set up Subaru's knowledge of the constellations from his world.
