Totally agree! And to top it all off the show can execute on basically every angle it has set up and still be realistic so the audience is left with the suspense of not knowing where the sword will fall.

Like y'all said in the discussion, this is a show where no one gets their way. Not the viewers, not the characters. If it were simpler, there would be room for hope of a "happy end"; a simple, tidy end. But being able to see this storm from miles away means that there's this Sword of Damocles hanging over our heads the whole time. That we don't know when or where it will drop. The threat of Canute and Thorfinn's hope; Arnheid's resignation and the turmoil of Gardar; Einar's love and Snake's duty. The sword has to hit something. That's what really elevates this show for me. And this episode is where that becomes clear imo. Some shows have an onion of evil, but this is a 5-layer lasagna of moral conflict.
