Some information from the light novel I think should have been explained already, and some of it was already explained in season 1: (It might still be explained in the next episode, so just a cautionary note in case you want to hold off reading it) ******************************** The Emperor's brother never leaves his rooms, so no one has seen him and knows what he looks like. Very few people know that Jinshi is this brother (son), Lakan is the only one outside of the emperor's very inner circle. Jinshi is just a highly respected eunuch who runs the rear palace. The guest invited to the hunt is the emperor's brother, not Jinshi. To keep the disguise, he wears the mask, which is explained as hiding his burned face he suffered in an accident, and that is also the reason why the brother never leaves his rooms. By the way: The food was full of aphrodisiacs.
